CBS gave up on the Benny front, and went after Edgar Beygen. NBC is reported to have $4,000,000 or close to it ready for the' ventrilo- quist. "They are paying out money to hold on to what they already have, while we have only to pay out to add to what we already own," a CBS executive told "The Hollywood Reporter," a movie trade paper. NBC is countering efforts of CBS to raid, its star list.
