I muta FHursDAY, OCTOBER: 21, SL 1948 THE DAILY TIMES-GAZETTE PAGE FIVE WHAT SHOULD 1 DO ABOUT Welcoming New Minister? By MRS. CORNELIUS BEECKMAN Dear Mrs. Beeckman: Next month a new minister and his wife will be coming to take charge of our small church. Two of my friends and I met them when they came here for a "professional" visit several months ago, and they were charming, such simplic- ity and such sweetness. Instead of planning to give a tea to welcome them, we three thought it might be a nice idea to give a shower for them. We are not sure that this is a pYper idea, and of course we wouldia't embarrass them for the . world. But if you assure us this is proper, will you also be kind enough to suggest what kind of shower we should give. Bertha W. Indeed this is a proper plan, gen- 'erous and gracious in thought, and quite often done in these circum- stances. And I am sure it will be welcomed by the new minister and his wife in the same friendly spir- it in which you and your friends are planning it. An excellent idea, I think, would be to give a Pantry Shower, with each guest bringing one or two or more cans or jars or boxes of provisions. Or it might be a Pantry-and-Decoration Show- er, with some of the guests bring- ing furnishing items for the rec- tory or manse. Or in the invita- tions, you might just call it a Housewarming Shower, and leave it to the guests to bring whatever they think would be most wel- come. SHE SETS FORTH THE REASONS SHE SHOULDN'T MARRY HIM Dear Mrs. Beeckman: I was expecting to be married next month to a man I love very much. I knew that he had been married before, but just lately I found out that he hasn't got his divorce, and hasn't saved enough money to get it. I have told him that our engagement is broken, but he begs me to wait for him until he gets his divorcee. My mother and my friends think it is best for me to forget him, as he may cause trouble by his divorce, as he never keeps a job, and is also jealous of anyone I speak to. In the year I've waited for him he has not even taken me to a movie or a dance. What do you suggest I do? R. R. I suggest you wake yourself up and shake off this bad dream. You say you "love this man very much . « . but apparently you cannot think of one reason to tell me why you love him. He's a liar and cheat . . . about his divorce. He's a lazy, irresponsible no-good . . . about working He doesn't want you to speak. to anyone, probably not because of jealousy, but for fear they might tell you about him and his past Don't even contem- plate letting this "case history" come to see you again. In his direction your unhappiness lies . .. as your thother and friends are most wisely warning you. RECESSIONAL § Dear Mrs. Beckman: We are to be married at a Nup- tial 'Mass. There will be a maid of honor, best man, two ushers. What is the correct order of the re- cessional? C. H. Recessional: first, the bride and bridemaid. Next, the maid of hon- or, either alone or with the best man. Last, the two ushers, walk ing together. RECEIVE WITH GRACE By Mrs. Beeckman It's charming, of course, to give with grace. And it's charming, too, to receive with grace. If you al- ways insist on paying, you will de- prive the other person of the en- joyment of. making a contribution to the relationship. (Mrs. Beeckman will be glad to answer questions submitted by readers.) Scugog Island Scene Of Pretty Wedding MRS. D.
