With less than two minutes to go, L©O'Hearn grabbed a loose puck on a breakaway and coasted In close, only to have his shot spoiled when Sullivan threw his stick. "Exhibition Tour For Cage Squad May Gain Title | By BILL IVENS Canadian Press Staff Writer Winnipeg, Oct. 21 (AP).--On the assumption a rolling stone does gather a little moss, Al Carlson, youthful mentor of the Manitoba basketball champion Winnipeg Paulins, will take his boys on a month-long jaunt through the United States this winter to give them seasoning. The way Al sees it, the ability to play consecutive, one-night stands is going to mean the differgnce when playoff time rolls aro! ext spring. Pauling came within an ace of upsetting Vancouver's Cloverleafs, winners of the Dominion cage title for the last two years, in a hard- fought, three-game series for the Wes@rn crown here last spring. And Carlson thinks he has the winning combination in this sea- son's edition: ;* "With all last year's squad back . this season, and with the invaluable experience they gained the play- offs, we're going to tough to beat," he avers, "I e it's our year, . Negotiations are still under way for the proposed tour through the States, but the lanky manager, him- self a"hoop star with the Toilers in Winnipeg's on days, expects A. H.L. Sports Roundup New York, Oct. 21--(AP)--Joe Louis has come and gone and a lot of the boys on the boxing beat were sitting around Harry Markson's of- fice discussing. the heavyweight champ's announcement that he'd fight again next June. Markson, now managing director of the 20th Century Sporting .Club, still speaks with the frankness he employed as publicity man, so it wasn't surpris- ing to hear him remark: , "Louis would be silly if he didn't fight. He won't get hurt and he can make a lot of money--and no doubt Joe needs it." By way of further ex- planation, Harry added: "The fighters that are around now, like the fellows he's considering--Baksi, Charles and Lee' Oma--wouldn't hurt him much even if one of them knocked him out. It would be dif- ferent if there was a rising young Dempsey around. Then there might be a good reason for Louis to re- tire." "Everything's Jake" Tackling a new and big job has left pipe-smoking Harry unruffled and he has his owh explanation for that, too. "Anyone who stays around Mike Jacobs long acquires some of the Jacobean philosophy," Markson says. "I'like to recall when Louis fought Buddy Baer in Wash- ington--the time Buddy knocked him out of the ring. The situation was such that the bout had to go on that one night or mot at all, and during the afternoon a terrific storm came up. Reporters were bat- tering the door of our hotel suite to ask if Mike would call the fight off, and Mike just sat there and reminisced about his early days on the Coney Island excursion boats. 'I've been fighting mature all my. life, he said. He didh't worry about it and, sure enough, about four o'clock the sun came out and the fight went on." a Bert Giesebrecht Scores Two for Homesters in 6-1 Win Over Guelph-- Flock of Penalties in 1st Period But Steady Play Prevails Rest of Way -- Rival Goalies to Fore Windsor, Oct. 21--(CP)--Windsor Spitfires swept to their second straight triumph of the junior OHA season here last night by drubbing Guelph Biltmores, 6-1, in the latter's first start before a crowd of 2,200.
