HOPE Correspondent Stugog, Oct. 19 -- Mr. Denton gave a most interesfing message on Sunday, the text being "On Patient Forgiveness", and he proved that people have to forgive their friends as well as their enemies, seventy times seven. The choir was on hand with their fine message of song. Mr. R. B. Smallman of Port Perry will bring a message on Sunday at both churches at the regular hours. Hope to see a large number out to welcome Mr. Smallman. Mr. Denton is attending his brother's wedding on Saturday. Mr, Denton has. taken rooms in Port Hope for the summer months to attend school there. Mr. Maurice Fralick acted as Superintendent and took charge of the Bible class on Sunday. On Monday morning the ground was all white with snow, our first snow fall. Mrs. Hubert Long and Mrs. T. Long visited Mrs. T. M, King at 7 Mile Island on Friday. Mrs. David Hope and Shirley vis- ited Mrs. R. Prentice and Edna and Violia on Friday. Farm Labor 'Responsible For Scarcity Ottawa, Oct. 21 -- (CP) -- H. S. Arkell, a former government trade commissioner and past president of the Carleton County Federation of Agriculture, said Wednesday a lack of farm labor was responsible for Canada's consumer problems. These problems of high costs and | scarcity would remain unsolved until "we get labor back on our farms, adequately paid and com- fortably housed," Mr. Arkell said in an address before the 33rd annual convention of the Eastern Ontario Women's Institute. Because of a lack of labor, he said the country was falling "far short of maintaining, to say noth- ing of developing, potential pro- ductivity of its farms." Donnelly, Dean Of Senate, Succumbs At 81 Owen Sound, Ont., Oct, 21--(CP) --Senator J, J. Donnelly, dean of the Canadian Senate, died yester- day in hig 82nd year, He had been a member of the Senate for 35 years and held office longer than any other member. He was appointed to the Red Chamber in' 1913, at the same time as the late Senator E. D. Smith who died last week in Winona, He attended the last session the Senate but had been ill at his home at nearby Pinkerton for the last three weeks, He was elected to represent South Bruce as a Conservative Member of Parllament in 1904, 1008 and 1911. In private life he conducted an extensive lumber business. Senator Donelly came of Irish stock, his parents having settled in Bruce County in 1855. Their son was born in a log cabin in Green- ock Township, On his 80th birthday he appear- ed in excellent health and was de- scribed as one of the most active members of the Senate. He was chairman of the National Resources Committee of the Senate. He is survived by his widow, the former Julia MeNabb, two daugh- ters, Mrs. W. M.
