From October 22nd on you'll be able to hear it an at 10:30 p.m. The champs, whom emcée Don Fairbairn tries to baffle with ques- tions on an unlimited range of sub- jects sent in by listeners each week, novelist, and Ralph Allen, associate editor of Maclean's Magazine, with two guest experts. Each suestion is divided into three sections. If any part stumps the ex- perts, the sender of the question re- ceives a copy of the Book of Knowledge. And if the champs can't answer the whole question a complete set of the Book of Know- ledge is « 'erded. The prize for each question used, whether answered correctly or not, is a copy of a cur- rent best seller. "Pop" Broadcasts Start Tomorrow For the fourth season, the Robert Simpson Company will sponsor a full hour broadcast each week of the Toronto Symphony "Pop" con- certs. This year the program will be heard at 9.00 p.m. Friday nights on the Trans-Canada network, be- ginning October 22. Sir Ernest MacMillan will direct the series, and Paul Scherman, as- sistant conductor of the TSO, will conduct most of the performances. The guest artist on the opening broadcast will' be the Canadian col- oratura soprano of the Metropoli- tan Opera, Pierrette Alarie, who has chosen the aria Je Suis Titania, from Mignon; and Lo, Hear the Gentle Lark, by Bishop. The or- chestral program contains such fa- vorites as Strauss' Thunder and Lighting Polka, Spanish Caprice, by Rimsky-Korsakoff, and the over- ture to Rossini's opera La Gazza Ladra. Plans for later "Pop" concerts by the TSO include a "Gershwin- Gould" night, a grand opera night, a ballet night, and a Viennese night. There will be several request programs throughout the series, The list of guest artists to be heard include Thomas KL. Thomas, Jean Dickenson, Igor Gorin, and Evelyn MacGregor. Maple Grove Auxiliary Met ™ Maple Grove, Oct. 20--~The Wo- men's Missionary Auxiliary held the October meeting in the church with a fair attendance. The president, Mrs. H. Freeman opened the meet- ing and conducted the business. It was decided to entertain the Mis- sion Band at the November meet- ing. The theme for the Worship ser- vice was "The Word of Truth" and was led by Mrs. Cecil Jeffery assis- ted by Mrs. Tunnicliffe, Mrs. J. Cookson and Mrs. Morley Burgess. The Chapter from the Study Book, "West of The Gorges" was taken by Mrs. L. C. Snowden. In the closing Worship, prayers were offered by Mrs. F. Swallow and Mrs. S. Mor- ton. Webber will act as.chairman and Mr. McLean and Mr. B. Hancock will be the committee in charge. On Sunday, October 24th, Colum- bus United Church will celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the erec- tion of the building. There will be services at 11 am. and 7:30 p.m. At these services the Rev. R. H. Wylie, the former pastof, will be the speaker. The choir will be as- sisted by the Male quartette in the morning and by Mrs. Crowle, of Oshawa, soloist, in the evening. Mrs. W. To Test Validity Of Rental Orders Toronto, Oct. 21 -- (CP) -- The vzlidity of federal rental orders and controls will be tested in a court case at nearby Milton Nov. 16. A Halton County court will hear an appeal by Joseph Adams aghinst his conviction last July for charg- ing a higher rent for a Burlington property than that fixed by the prices board rentals division.
