Orm- istno, N. Birkett, Audrey Mann. Doris Drummond and = Ronald Johnson, Mr. Richie is engaged by the Fed- eration of Agriculture to get - agri- cultural workers together to discuss their problems and to promote so- cialibility as a step toward improv- ing their lot in life. Wherever we see two or more farmers gathered we hear them in earnest discussion of their work, its difficulties and problems. But in order to be effec- tive our opinions must be presented in the right way and at the proper place. In order to do that the far- mers must be, represcented as a body by one who is infuential in government circles. We have such a man in Mr. Herb Hannam, presi- dent of tthe Federation of Agricul- ture. He has done much to help farmers and will do more if we stand solidly behind him. The social value of these meet- ings is important as it gives people a chance to exercise their talent and publicly express their views. 'There is to be another meeting in January, Everyone plan to attend. 'Waterman, rector of Christ Church Cathedral in Hamilton, and Dean of Niagara since 1938, has been appointed Co-adjutor Bishop of Nova Scotia. He is seen with Mrs. Waterman, The 'Way of Love SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON FOR SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 1947 (The Injernational Uniform Les- son on the above topic for Novem- | ber 23 is I John 1-3; John 21:15-22, the Memory Verse being John 13:35, "By this shall all men know that ye are My disciples, if ye have love one to another.") LOVE IS the subject of this.les- son, Love to Ged first, then love to man. One cannot truly love God if he loves not his fellowmen. In writing his first epistle to his fellow Christians, John says: "Bre- thren, I write no new command- ment unto you, but an old com- mandment which ye have heard from the beginning." Since they became Christians they had known these truths that John now writes them; that is the old command- ment that they have known. Then he writes, "Again a new command- ment I write unto you, which thing is true in Him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light, "and in Him is no darkness at all." 'He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in dark- ness even until now. "He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion - of stumbling in him. "But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in dark- ness ,and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes." Hatred Makes Darkness How can one see, even in the shining light, if his eyes are blind- ed by that worst of all darkness, hatred? Cain killed his brother Abel because he was jealous of him, and after that Cain's 'life was all dark- ness. Our daily newspapers are full of accounts of men and women who hated someone and killed them in their anger. How full of darkness must these people's lives be after such a dreadful deed: They may ob- tain forgiveness from God if they truly repent, but they never can be truly happy. Even little children who hate a playmate know well how such a feeling darkens- thcir lives, and only ' after they have "made up" with the one they hate, can thé sun shine again for them. Normally one loves his own fam- ily and relatives, but how sad it is when family fueds cut those- na- tural family ties and make those who should bé™appy in one anoth- er's society into enemies. Love creates light; makes life shining. In this epistle John calls those to whom he wriths "little chil- dren." He addresses the older men, young men, and children, too, in this affectionate manner, "And now, little shildren," he writes, "abide in Him; that, when He shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before Him at His Coming. How love could transform this sad world: Wars would be no more, for each would seek understand- Will Straighten Orono Highway Surveyors from the Ontario Department of Highwhy ys are now busily engaged surveying the road do at the winding hill this 'side of Pontypool, we do no know, This will eliminate all the cor- ners from Oromo to Enterprise, and at thg same time will do away with accidents that have been happening at these sharp beds in the road. If we truly love people, we. want to give them the best, and forget our sel- fish desires. It is sad indeed, that nearly two thousand -years since Christ was on earth, we still forget His words which we have taken for our Memory Verse today: "By this shall all men know that ye are My disciples, if ye save love to anoth- er." Renounce Worldly Things John®also entreats these older men -- fathers -- young Christian men, and children, to renounce worldly things for the sake of -their Christian lives. "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world For all that is in the world, lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. "And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof, but he that doeth the will of God abidith forever.' Do you remember the story of the Risen Christ appearing to the dis- ciples on the Sea of Galilee in northern Palestine? They had been fishing all night and with no results and were weary. He stoed on the shore waiting for them. At {first they did not know Him, but John recognihed Him first, and he had prepared a meal for them on the beach. Once more He was with them in happy communion. After they had eaten Jesus said to Peter, "Simon, son of John, lov- est thou: Me more than these?" Peter answered, "Yea, Lord, Thou knowest that I love Thee. He said, Feed My lambs." Three times Jesus asked Peter the same question until Peter was grieved that the Lord doubted his love, The last time Peter said, "bord, thou knowest all things; Thou knowest that I love Thee.. Jesus sald unto him, Feed my sheep." Then, indicating by what mar- | tyr's death Peter would die, the Lord reminded him that when he was young he could dress himself and walk whither he would, but when he should be old, "uthou shall stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou would'st not."
