Oakville Beaver | Thursday, June 8, 2023 | 8 insidehalton.com Bhandari Dental OAKVILLE — ADVERTORIAL — Dr. Vineet Bhandari dentist Know facts about soft tissue lasers In dentistry, many people assume a laser light is used as a light “knife” or “drill” to replace dental instruments. Laser light is actually absorbed by photo-sensitive molecules and cells. When the light energy is absorbed it is converted to chemical energy, which in turn results in many beneficial changes that take place within the cells. laser is defined as “light amplification by simulated emission of radiation”. Lasers release a concentrated beam of light at a specific wavelength causing the desired reaction or effect. The wavelength will ultimately determine the effect along with some other factors. The soft tissue laser allows us to place fillings below the gum tissue without disrupting the tissue and causing it to bleed. When a drill is used it can “shred” the gum tissue, making it bleed and become swollen and painful following the treatment. When a laser is used there is minimal pain, swelling, bleeding and enhanced healing thanks to the laser’s inherent sterilization quality. The soft tissue laser used in our office increases the production of collagen to promote greater healing and increases lymphatic fluid flow to decrease swelling. The laser also assists the body in releasing endorphins and enkephalins, its natural pain- killers. The following is a list of other ways that lasers are used in dental treatments: * crown lengthening * gingival gum tissue contouring for cosmetic purposes iod need for surgery) * treatment of aphthous ulcers (canker sores) * post extraction treatment and more We use soft tissue dental lasers (see photo the successful results speak for themselves.
