14 Sarah's Research Notes Historical Information & Anecdotes About Nelson Hicks' Journal Entries. TheThe South Marysburgh MirrorMirror The tooth is the only part of the human body that cannot heal itself. Nelson tells us that "The baby", born on May 20 is now named on July 19. It was not uncommon at this (cid:415)me, when an infant's chances of surviving were lower, not to name the baby un(cid:415)l a(cid:332)er the period of highest vulnera- bility (death rates were highest the first day, dropping a(cid:332)er that and dropping again a(cid:332)er the first two months.) Some commentators have noted that this may have been to avoid a(cid:425)achment to a child and help di- minish the grief if the child died. Neither of their chosen names for "the boy", Lloyd nor Leroy, appears to have been a family name, but both were reasonably popular; Lloyd was ranked #72 and Leroy #64 in popularity in 1903. Lloyd was actu- ally trending up quite fast in the first decade of the 20th century. Whether or not this fact had any influence on the men in on the name choice, it is of interest that the first gasoline-powered car built in quan(cid:415)(cid:415)es in Canada was launched in 1903 and was called Le Roy. Nine out of every 10 living things live in the ocean. ('Party' con(cid:415)nued from page 13) for $3,495. I Watched a video of this thing, and it's pre(cid:425)y neat. It would have to be for the price. But s(cid:415)ll, three grand to cook pancakes? A frying pan si(cid:427)ng atop your BBQ wouldn't create equal quality pancakes? Well, you be the judge. It's your money. Harry Rosen has an ad that asks the ques(cid:415)on, "Is there really such a thing as BBQ a(cid:427)re?" The ad features several chefs in what is deemed appropriate a(cid:427)re. The first guy is wearing a "Burberry Brit" short sleeved shirt for $215 with Jacob Cohen jeans for $598. These are not familiar brand names to me, but when I compared them to a Giant Tiger ad that asks "Why pay $10?" for a man's short sleeved shirt because they sell them for $7, I ask myself what's the big difference? There's a difference I'm sure, but can it be that large? As for the jeans, I would assume they are made of denim and s(cid:415)ll cost over 500 bucks. I guess I am not a Harry Rosen kind of guy. The moral is, "You can overdo anything." Char- ring a cheap steak on a gas BBQ with a cold beer, wear- ing your old clothes, that's al fresco dining by my rules.
