TheThe South Marysburgh MirrorMirror May 2015 Published for Residents, Businesses and Visitors since 1985 Milford's New 'Lending It's Birding Month in South Marysburgh Library of Things' By Chris(cid:415)ne Renaud On Saturday, May 16th, drop by the Emporium in Mil- ford at 11:00 a.m. and learn about the new Lending Library of Things (LLOTs) star(cid:415)ng in the County. While you're there, check out all the great, funky vintage goodies at the grand opening of The Milford Empori- um! Similar tool lending libraries exist in many ci(cid:415)es in the U.S. and are popping up around the country here, too. Toronto, Hamilton, Halifax and Vancouver all have them, and now, so do we Prince Edward Coun- ty! The idea is to share what we have as a commu- nity for free, especially things that we may not need all the (cid:415)me. In addi(cid:415)on to building and carpentry tools, we hope to gather gardening and yard tools, cra(cid:332)ing tools, sewing machines, specialty cooking equipment like dehydrators and specialty pans, and anything that people might need to borrow short term. (Con(cid:415)nued on page 10) South Marysburgh in May? Not just for the birds! The Spring Birding Fes(cid:415)val a(cid:425)racts hundreds of enthu- siasts from Southern Ontario as well as hundreds of others from around the world. If you're in the South Marysburgh area for the opening of the Fes(cid:415)val on May 16th there's plenty of other stuff to do while you're here. Live, Laugh, Eat in Milford can supply you with take-out food; Vicki's Veggies' tomato seedling sale takes place on Morrison Point Road on the 16th and 17th with plenty of other vendors on hand; the Black River Cheese Company on County Road 13 will launch its new sheep cheese (and the 'Black Crick Chicks' will be on hand in the parking lot to serenade you, sell treats and collect money for the Relay for Life); and the Emporium and 'Library of Things' will be opening in Milford. When you've done all that, visit Half Moon Bay Winery and the Mariners' Museum on County Road 13, and Long Dog Winery on Brewers Road on your way to the Milford Bistro for a good lunch or dinner. Mayor Robert Quaiff demonstrates perfect birding form outside Shire Hall (PEPTBO photo) Migra(cid:415)on Monitoring at the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory is in full swing. The colourful warblers in their spring breeding plumage are star(cid:415)ng to arrive at Prince Edward Point - and to feed on the midges that have emerged in the Traverse Woods and beyond. This year Mayor Robert Quaiff is a "guest bird- er" in the Spring Bird Count. As an independent chari- ty and organiza(cid:415)on, the Bird Observatory depends on the funds raised with the Spring Bird Count, so if Mayor Quaiff approaches you for a dona(cid:415)on - dig deep!
