18 TheThe South Marysburgh MirrorMirror   Built Heritage Grant Announced  In  August  2010  the  precipitous  demoli(cid:415)on  of  the  135 year old Methodist Episcopal Church, an iconic  landmark  on  Main  Street,  Picton,  brought  con- cerned  ci(cid:415)zens  together  to  discuss  how  important  historic structures in the County could be saved. The  realiza(cid:415)on was that without interven(cid:415)on there was  the dis(cid:415)nct possibility that many of these buildings  could  be  lost  to  us  -  and  to  future  genera(cid:415)ons.   Thus the first Christmas House Tour Commi(cid:425)ee was  formed and the first Christmas House Tour was held  in  December  2010.    The  reputa(cid:415)on  and  success  of  the  annual  tour  grows  every  year,  with  proceeds  moun(cid:415)ng in a fund designated for the preserva(cid:415)on  and protec(cid:415)on of built structures determined to be  important  to  the  community  and  the  history  of  Prince Edward County.  A(cid:332)er  five  years  of  increasingly  successful  Christmas  House  Tours  in  the  County,  the  County  Community  Founda(cid:415)on,  which  administers  the  Prince  Edward  County  Built  Heritage  Fund,  will  award  the  first  "Save-The-Day"  Grant.  The  house  tour  organizing  commi(cid:425)ee,  consis(cid:415)ng  of  Libby  Crombie,  Stephanie  Lynn,  Marilyn  Kennedy,  Jackie  Soorsma, Carolyn Clarke, and Marilyn Lauer, are de- lighted  to  be  able  to  offer  some  of  the  proceeds  back  to  the  community.   The   deadline  for  applica- (cid:415)ons is June 15th, and further details including eligi- bility  of  project  and  of  applicant  can  be  found  at  www.countycommunityfounda(cid:415)on.ca  or  by  calling  613-476-7901 x 218.  Back row, L to R: Elizabeth Crombie, Stephanie Lynn & Jackie Soorsma.
