The South Marysbursh Mir Roots + Wings Happenings at St. Philip's Anglican Church, Milford Thanks to Steve for offering us the opportu- nity to resume our Roots and Wings column. We ap- preciate this chance to keep in touch with our neighbours. You are always welcome to join us for Sun- day service at 11:00 a.m. During the Lenten season, The Rey. Susan DeGruchy will preach on The Seven Words from the Cross. In addition to regular Sunday services, special Holy Week services in The Parish of Marysburgh will include: Maundy Thursday, April 5th at 7:00 p.m. at St. John’s, Waupoos, and Good Friday, April 6th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Philip's. Coffee is served in the hall following Sunday service at St. Philip's. On the fourth Sunday of the month we enjoy a pot luck sandwich lunch after church. Good food, good fellowship, and everyone is welcome! As we begin this holy season of Lent, we in- vite you to join us for a four part series: Shaped by Love and Grounded in Jesus. Based on the Holy Week readings from the Gospel of St. John, this wor- ship and study will begin on Sunday, March 11th at 7:00 pm. The first session will consider John 12: 1- 12, Mary's model of discipleship. The series will continue for the following three Sundays and will be lead by The Rev. Canon David Smith, Stewardship and Congregational Development Officer for the Diocese of Ontario. Everyone is welcome. In addition to smaller projects, the St. Philip's Outreach Committee tries to organize at least one larger project a year. At the moment we are planning an event for June 7th which will look at Canada's complex relationship with First Nations Peoples. We are very honoured that Professor Marlene Brant Cas- tellano,O.C., has accepted an invitation to be our guest speaker with her presentation: A Contradiction at the Heart of Canada: The Troubled Relationship with First Peoples. More information to follow. Keep an eye out for posters in the village about our pot luck suppers/movie nights. We also advertise these in Whattam's Community Calendar. Usually held once a month, everyone is welcome at this admission free event. We hope to see many of you at our Annual Canoe Trip down Black River on Monday, May 21st. This popular event is always fun with the re- ward of a Bar-B-Q hot dog lunch at the end of your trip. Many thanks to Karen and Harley Guernsey for allowing us to set off from their lawn at 11:00 a.m., and to Rita Taylor for letting us lunch on her lawn! If you want more information about St. Philip's or our events, please call Paula Walker at 613-476-6063. Thank you for all your support at the many events we host throughout the year.
