The South Marysbursh Mir New Nature Preserve on the South Shore The Hastings Prince Edward Land Trust (HPELT) is very excited to announce the creation of the Miller Family Nature Reserve along the South Shore of Prince Edward County. This 466 acre par- cel of land will be maintained by the Land Trust as a Nature Reserve forever. This property is ecologically significant and has been recognized as within the PEC South Shore Important Bird Area and as a Globally Significant Important Bird Area,containing several threatened species. The property also has 80 acres of Provincially Significant South Bay Coastal Wetland along 2000 ft of shoreline. As a Nature Re- serve this property will only be used for educational purposes by the Land Trust and will serve to con- serve an important part of PEC's natural heritage. AUC: IF oN Mae FN Funding for the purchase of this property came from the Nature Conservancy of Canada and Ontario Heritage Trust. The Land Trust is responsi- ble for raising funds for the Stewardship Fund which will be used to maintain the property. The amount needed to be raised, as per our funders' requirements, is $85,000 by January 15th, 2012. To date we have raised $30,000.
