The weather was gorgeous with daily tem- peratures at 30 celsius, but when we arrived in Am- sterdam it was pouring with rain and according to the local people it had rained every day since June. The things we saw such as the Nazi building and the stadium at Nuremberg, which is now a mu- seum; beautiful vineyards that rise up the side of the mountains; castle after castle on every bend of the Rhine; the cable car ride at Rudesheim; and even the canal cruise in Amsterdam in the rain with the win- dows fogging up, will remain in our memories. So much was done by the cruise line to make our trip interesting including guest musicians, glass blowers, zither concerts and much more. Since the cruise line is Australian, most of the guests were of course Australians. Now that was a culture shift for the few Canadians and Americans on board — what fun! (Praireee, continued from page 8) Last Halloween I was in Toronto, in a neighborhood with flocks of little kids. One mother had made a penguin costume for her child, and a work of art it was, too. A penguin head, body, and even penguin floppy feet, and therein lay the prob- lem. With his floppy feet, he had difficulty walking with any speed. Splat! Splat! His poor feet kept step- ping on each other. He couldn’t keep up with his pals, and they were not going to wait for him. His Dad had to accompany him down the road. He was quite young so I don’t think he would have held the experience against his well meaning mother for more that ten years. Speaking of dumb ideas, it is reported that a Chinese man attempted to smuggle his pet tortoise on a plane by placing it on his back and pretending he was a hunchback. It seems that he passed security, which seems incredible, but was later examined by a guard because the lump looked suspicious. I suppose it was crawling up and down or something. To sum it up, a dumb idea for sure. The moral of this story? There are lots of dumb people around. ..often in positions of authority. , Walker s Greenhouse Please call to buy one of our gift certificates. Merry Christmas!
