This Hints for Shopping BEAUTY FOR YOU -- For Summer Clothes Button-up-the-front models will retain their popularity at work - for play styles. There are so y styles to choose from in al- every summer fabric. Linens, and fresh looking, are es- good in this style. If it's for the office you will appreciate the dress, with cap sleeves, and horizontal stripes to put you in mood. Seersuckers have achieved a new business-like doesn't it? Cool and summery was the little seersucker with wine and French blue stripes. Bands of -blue trimmed the waistline and a bow made a nice neckline touch. Have you always had an urge to be the Southern belle type? If so, you'll find a sweet dress that just answers the role. In a fine "soap and water" gingham it has tiny puff sleeves and a frilled flounce at the hemline. A wide sash ties in a big fresh bow at the back. Another style in the same material, featured big, gathered pockets. Light, cool, chambrays are an- and |just a few of the combinations tan. Tailored shirtwaist style dresses, with pleats on the front of the skirt, are the smartest of styles in chambray. 4 Plaids, in every conceivable com- bination of color, are another hap- py thought for office wear--sort of "brighten up the corner where you are" idea. And when they are in cottons, and washables, they're par- ticularly welcome. Bright yellow and | black, pastel blue, and red or wine, orange-tinted yellow and brown, are shown in one-piece and two-piece styles. Of course one white dress is a must on your list. If you just can't tear yourself away from the suit idea youll be glad to know that there are some linen suits in the shops. One I saw was in crush- resistant linen with large flap poc- kets and fitted slim skirt. Nice in white, too, is washable pique or waffle weave cotton. I saw a smart buttoned pique, and an- other that you could zip in or out of in seconds. It's a long time since we have seen styles featuring a full-length - zipper. ABREAD » --OPPORTUNITY DAY --OPPORTUNITY DAY --OPPORTUNITY DAY --OPPORTUNITY A Physician Advises You By HERMAN N. BUNDESEN, M.D. FOON ALLERGY A person who becomes ill through eating certain foods which are harmless to others is said to have a food allergy. For instance, straw- berries, a great delicacy for most people, cause a certain few to break out in an itching, burning rash. Another person, eating a food to which he happens to be over-sensi- tive, may develop symptoms affect- ing the stomach or bowels. This is known ag a gastro-intestinal aller- gy. According to Dr, Robert Chobot of New York, in some cases, the patient may react within a period of fifteen minutes to one hour. In other cases, a period of as much as three days may elapse before sym- toms may develop. - Food 'Sensitivity Dr. Chobot also believes that if a child has a food sensitivity, it usually lasts until he is about five years of age and then, for some reason or another, tends to disap. pear. In the infant, gastro-intestinal allergy usually is responsible for such things as colic, vomiting, and pains in the abdomen. The fi which most often produce e trouble are milk, eggs and wheat products. It is occasionally possible, in cases of children sensitive to milk, to overcome the symptoms by giv- ing evaporated milk, since heating seems to alter the protein part of the milk in such a way that it no longer produces trouble. In other instances, it may be ne- cessary to employ some milk sub- stitute, such.as a preparation made from soy beans. When a child is sensitive to eggs, of course the eggs may be eliminated entirely from the diet. + Pain in Abdomen In the adult, gastro-intestinal al- lergy produces such symptoms as pain in the abdomen, burning sen- sations, and the presence of ex- cessive amounts of gas in the stomach and bowel. Of such symptoms may be produced by a variety of disorders, such as gall- bladder disease, ulcer of the stom- ach, constipation and similar con. ditions, Hence, if it is suspected that the trouble is due to allergy, careful study must be carried out in order to be sure. It must be pos- sible, if the symptoms are due to allergy, to reproduce them by giv- | ing the patient some of the food to which he is sensitive. Foods which seem to be particu- larly responsible for producing the symptoms are sea food, nuts, and again, milk and eggs) Of course, in all cases, the treatment involves eliminating from the diet complete- ly the foods which are producing the difficulty.
