Chimney To Stay "What are you planning to do with the chimney?" His Worship asked, "Leave it on the garage. I'll need if for my workshop." 5 "Building Inspector Elliott has just said this is against the law," His Worship pointed out. Adams said nothing. , 5 "Have you received any come- plaints since moving, into this frame tutiding on June 1?" His Worship as! "No one has asked me to move out. Elliott and Alderman Finley M. Dafoe, through the papers, have raised objections, The Medical Officer of Health inspected the place and said he could find noth- ing to complain about." Cross examined by Building In. spector Elliott, Adams admitted he had appeared before the city coun- cil and asked for permission to move into the garage. "Permission was refused," he said, "Didn't you make the statement that you were going to move in re- gardless of what the city council eald?" Building Inspector Elliott asked, "Yes, I did." "Do you know the acting mayor visited this place with me at the time?" "Yes, I did" "You know there is a similar building on the lot next doqr to you and that the people there are awaiting the outcome of this case before deciding whether to move into it?" "Yes, sir." In summing up His Worship said: "Unfortunately in this case there has been a deflance on the part of Adams. Apparently he asked for permission to move into this building and was refused, No as- surance is given that this building he is now building is going to be ready for living in for some time. "I can understand the city's an- fety in this case. The situation arose some years ago with people building garages and occupying them while they built houses. Un- fortunately many of them never did finish their houses and as a result many of them are still living in the garages. "They are an eye-sore and an in- convenience to the neighbors who built according to the bylaw. Clacton-On-Sea, Eng, -- (CP) -- Postmaf E.
