One factor rose to mar Vines' triumph, Cochet, in order to reach the finals, had been forced a few hours earlier to play and win a hard set from Wilmer Al- lison of Austin, Texas. Their semi-final match had been inter- rupted the previous night by darkness after each had won two sets, and Cochet had to play "full out" to take the final set Saturday, 7-5.
