L. MASON) Natwithstanding the opinion of others, I am thoroughly convinced | that the Oshawa Fair is a neces- | sary institution and community | builder. The 1932 officers and directors, selected tram the City and rural | sections, all have been working un- | der the able Presidgncy and Man- agement of Mr, Sinclair, and Pave displayed the necessary enthusiasm to make the Oshawa Fair a decid- ed success this year. Our President has kept the Directors "on the jump" for the last six months by having general meetings of Direc- tors and special meetings of the dif- erent committees. Only those closely connected with the Fair Board have had an oppor- tunity of seeing how the private in- dividuals] farmers, merchants and manufacturers have co-operated displaved indicates a wide interest coupled wjth the belief that the 'Oshawa Fair is a direct benefit to this City and the surrounding coun- try. - \ With the guarantee of a large list of exhibits and with special attrac- tions, the South Ontario Agricul- tural Fair for 1932 will be the best ever held in this city. F. L. MASON Chairman of the Oshawa Public | Utilities Commission, and Honor- ary President of the South On. tario Agricultural Society. Horse Race Program at Oshawa Fair After the success of last vear's horse' races on the program of Osh. awa Eair, this year's Fair will see Tar sport harness racing,' with some of the fastest trotters and pacers in the Dominion taking part in the trials of speed on Tuesday and Wednesday * afternoon. To make this program of horse racing a suc- cess, the directors in charge have scoured the country to secure the entries &f the best hotses that could be lined up to compete, and each at- ternoon there will be two fast ev ents, with handsome prizes offered, and with the best three of five lreats to count. The people of Oshawa and district have shown that they were willing to support good horse racing, and so the Fair directors have tried to get the very best to satisfy that demand. Already many fast horses are entered and have been showing their places on other tracks, so that a large entry Is as- sured in each of the four events which will feature the grand stand program for the Fair, GEO. 'GENERAL MOTORS MODELS TO | ' BE SHOWN AT EMBRACE FULL | All General Motors Lines| , To Be Included in Splen-| in Large| Fair did Display Marquee at The Next Week Believing implicitly that an im- provement in general business con- ditions is at hand, and that a, ag- gressive sales policy will enable the company to take full advantage ot the possibilities for developing bet- ter business, the General Motors of Canada, Limited, is making a splendid display of automobiles at the Oshawa Fair, Housed in a large ..arquee on the fair grounds will be found models of all the popular General Motors makes of cars, from the humble but beautiful and serviceable Chevrolet to the luxurious twelve-cylinder Cadillac car. This display will be well worth a visit by all who gre interested in real car values. Chevrolet The many improvements on the 1932 Chevrolets on display at the fair are so numerous and techni- cally listed that they are somewhat of a task for the layman to under- stand. Yet each improvement found in the 1932 models gives the car owner and driver considerably less to do and at the same time simplifies all those movements tliat he is called upon to perforin, whe- ther it be guiding the car through congested traffic or at ease on the country highway, The outstanding improvement in the combination of 'a syncro-mesh transmission and an expanding- spring type of over-running clutch, (free-wheeling). Additional speed through an increase of '20 per cent in' horse-power gives high speeds up to 65-70 miles per hour. Faster acceleration and smoother opera- tion at all speeds is also apparent. These improvements in perfor- mance are contributed by the com- bined effect of down-draft carbu- retion counter-balanced crankshaft OSHAWA FAIR RANGE OF CARS and an Improved type of engine ! | mounting. Pontiac Many new mechanical develop ments incorporated in the 1932 Pontiac Six are expected to make {even more secure Pontiac's repu- tation for stamina, reliability and long life, Stronger and more rigid frames, with six instead of the usual five cross members, have further redu- ced stresses on both engines and bodies. Over-size dimensions for every vital engine part has produ- ced a big easy-running six, which will be in the General Motors tent at the Fair. One of the principal advauce- ments that glves the 1932 Pontiac its great stamina is found in the fact that full pressure lubrication is provided to every moving part. Even the new constant-fit piston pins receive oll under pressure through holes rifle-drilled in the strong webb-reinforced connecting rods. In addition to their pressure lubrication: systems, both engines also provide the advantages of the splash lubrication system. Oil over- flow/vents in the lower connecting rod bearing throw a spray of oil as the crankshaft turns which thor oughly lubricates the cylinder walls pistons and rings. This feature is especially valuable because it pro- vides immediate lubrication for the cylinders in winter starting. The crankshaft i, the new Pon- tiac Six weighs eivht pounds. more than before and carries a new type of Harmonic Balancer. Electro-plated hand-fitted pistons contribute greatly to the durability of the motors in the new Pontiac. Oldsmobile The 1932 Oldsmobiles to be seen at the Fair, are larger--more pow- erful Six and a new Straight Eight. Both are excellent repre- sentatives of modern styling and contain many new engineerirg fea- tures that provide exceptional per- formance, Distinctive styling features the | six body 'types included in both the Six and Eight lines. Contours fol- low the graceful streamlines which dominate the latest car models. New ideas in the use of chromium plating provide artistic touches in the exteriprs, while the interiors reflect luxury in design, upholstery and appointments. Engineering detauls that make driving simpler and easier are heightened by free wheeling, with selective control on the dasn; ime proved syncro-mesh transmission with silent second gear; smggther and more powerful brakes and a 17 to 1 steering gear ratio. Body types ui tne standard Olds- mobile Six and Light are: two-door sedan, business coupe, four-door se- dan, convertibic roadster, and patri- can four-door gedap. McLaughlin Buick Motorists of Oshawa who choose the McLaughlin-Buick tor their next motor car will be pleased and startled to know in the next 50,000 miles they drive the car, they will save themselves the effort of mov- ing some 3200 tons of clutch opera- tion by the use of the Wizard Con- trol, new standard equipment on the McLaughlin-Buick line on dis- play at the Fair, Tests have proven that the clutch is depressed and releaséd about 4 times mile of driving and 35 pounds pressure is required to complete each movement. The elinunation of this exertion explains why Wizard Control--free-wheeling and the new silent syncro-mesh transmission combined with the automatic clutch ~--is considered one of the greatest engineering advancements of recent years, Automatic Control The test referred to dramatizes what the new McLaughlin-Buick features bring to the motorist in ease and comfort. With the auto- matic clutch the work is perform- ed by merely resting the foot unon the new clutch control button, pow- er supplied by vacuum from the in- take manifold moving the clutch, The arrangement permits shifting to any gear--low, second, high and even reverse--without touchin + the Clutch pedal. "This is made possible by the selecter valve, which regu- lates the speed of the clutch en- gagement, tor low, second and high. giving mechanical orecision to ithe operation. The driver can also go into free wheeling and out of it without using the clutch pedal, the automatic clutch giving instant con- trol of both tree wheeling and con- ventional drive. Beautiful beyond predecessors, and still more brilli- ant in performance, the 1932 Cadil- lacs are being shown at the Oshawa Fair, In all three Cadillacs--the V-16, the V-12 and the V-18, a score of fundamental improvements have been embodied: Hoi racier lines have been achieved by redu- cing the height of the cars from one to three inches while increasing at the same time the headroom of the interlors. A new radiator, flaring at the top; an exclusive new grille; new lamps ot definite "air-foil" con- tour; a rakish new windshield; and sweeping fender and roof lings all stamp the new Cadillacs as distin- guished automobiles, The latest engineering achieve- ments in the Cadillac line include triple syncro-mesh transmission, a full range ride regulator, controlled free-wheeling, six point rubber- cushioned engine suspension, super- safe five-beam head lamp control on the Cadillacs, exclusive Cadillac no-flex frames fixed adjustment com pression type spring shackles, cast molybdenum safety brakes, air cool- led fuel lines and generator, and numerous additions and pronounced improvments in body construction and Interior appointments, any of their A little boy had just gone through a delicate operation and was being anxiously watched by a ward nurse, who asked, at the boy slowly open- ed his eves, "How do you feel son- ny " | #8} Th boy replied, "O.K.,, Baby."
