There was little to choose be- tween the teams with Knox and McMahon engaging in a thrilling pitcher's battle that had the fans sitting on the edge of their seats all the time. Knox was at the top form striking out eight batters, while his support was air-tight and the Dukettes kept the error column absolutely clear. Both pitchers had great control with McMahon having a little the bet- ter of the argument here as he did not walk a player while Knox issued two free passes. The Du- kettes can thank the timely hit by Kellar in the fourth for their win as at the time Luke was on base. The locals outhit the visit- ors by seven to five, with the ex- | tra base hits being evenly divid- | ad between the teams. Cor- nish and Knox got two hits in the second but the hits were wasted through good play on the part of the visitors. Port Hope went down in order in their half of the third, while although Claus and Tamblyn had singled in the last of the inning, Hall and Reeves went out to end the rally. Ough led off with a double in the fourth and Devine walked with no one out, Harwood then flied to Reeves and Phillips sacrificed. With Ough on third and Devine on sec- ond McMahon hit to Claus for the third out. Cc h Ed. Cornish led off with a sin- gle in the last of the fourth but was forced at second by Luke. However, Luke managed to work his way around to second and scored when Kellar singled. Don. Cornish tapped to the box to end the inning, After this little splurge both teams settled down and not a hit was registered bff either pitcher and the game end ed with the Dukettes still nurs- mg their one-run lead.
