Phone 324, Denver, Colo,--A definite break between the Anglican Church and e Protestant Episcopal Church of America over the birth control question appeared probable here at the 60th general Episcopal con- vention. The Right Rev. Irving P. John- fon, Bishop of Colorado, called a secret session of the House of Bishops for today. His act caus- ed many reports to circulate among the delegates to the con- vention, The English minority delega- tion, bitterly opposed to birth control, was led by Lord Bishop Michael B. Furse, of St. Albans, London. The rules of the House of Bishops were waived to permit Bishop Furse to attend the meet- ing today. It was reported that the pur- pose of the meeting was to align the American Church and the fac- tion of the English Church led by Bishop Furse in order that the two organzations might present a united front at the next Lambeth conference of the Anglican Bish- ops at London, Lambeth Action Opposed Bishop Johnson was said to have been oppoged to the action on birth control taken by the Bishops at the 'last conference, and suggested that the American Bishops might have withdrawn from the subject of birth control came up, had there heen a way to do so without being discourteous to their hosts, The request of William M. Brown, deposed Bishop of Arkan- sug, who has requested reinstate- ment from.the House of Bishops, also will come before the house at the secret session today. In his petition for reinstatement the former bisliop sald that he be- lieved and accepted 'all repre- sensations of the Old and New Testaments, Catholic creeds, Pro- testant confessions, articles and prayer books." Brown was ousted from his high place in the Church in 1925, because of statements he publish- ed which were regarded by the House of Bishops as heresy. Depicting the world as being in the throes of a great economic crisis, Spencer- Miller, Jr., con- sultant on industry for the Church, urged yesterday that every facility of the Church be ready to minister to human dis- tress during the coming months. He cited the financial distress in England and Germany as being two examples of the crisis which have compelled the world to con- sider anew the gravity of fits present state of affairs, MODERN BUSTLES No one need make an active oh- jection of the new hustle" mode. Dresses having a bow or a. frill treatment at the back to simulate that originally uncom- fortable fashion have béen so modernized that they are actual- ly easier to wear than many a tightly swathed gown of last gea- son There is hardly a trace of bus- fle to he geen among the frocks designed by Lanvin, but there is a new kind of evening blouse, or jumper, that should prove ex- tremely popular because it is so practical, "There was never a time when exploration wag more attractive than it is today.""--Roy Chapman, Notice GENTLEMAN WANTS INSTRUC tion in dancing.
