Columbus, Oct. 22n4d,+1930, (95¢) MELCHETT CHARG BREACH OF FAITH Resigns as Chairman of Two Jewish Agencies in Protest i ------ London, Oot. 22.--Asserting that the British Government by its at- titude on Palastine had broken faith with the Jews who gave their lives and money during the war, Lord Melchett, noted British industrialist and leader of British Jewry, re- signed his chairmanships of two committees of the Jewish agency yesterday. His letter of resignation was sent to Dr, Chaim Weizmann, who has resigned the presidency of the Jewish Agency and the Internation al Zionist organization in protest against the Government's white paper, which, he faterpreted as cur- tailing the activity of Jewish work in Palestine. Lord Melchett said that the Gove ernment had been aided by Jews during the' war but that the way the Government had "wrecked" the loyal support of the Jews was incredible. "It is an ct of almost unparallel- ed ingratitude and treachery com- mitted by a Government toward a credulous and harassed people," he sald. Lord Melchett (Alfred Mond) sucs ceeded the late Louis Marshall as chairman of the Jewish Agency's Counell. As president of the Eng- 'lish Zionlst Federation and chair- man of the Jewish Agency's Cotnell, Lord Melchett has been one of the leading figures in the movement for the upbuilding of Palestine, RUGBY PLAYER IS NEARLY DROWNED (By Canadian Press Leased Wire) Port Arthur, Oct. , 22.--Percy Lalonde, member of Port Arthur intermediate' rugby team, was al- T.
