(30-36-42-48) WORRIES REDUCED WITH MAGIC TABLE Sealed Chamber Contains Glycerine -- Legs Wax And Wane A table with magic legs, auto- matically shrinking to overcome any {inequalities of floor surface will be one of the greatest novel- | ties of thie British Industries Fair at Birmingham this month, The secret lies in the castors--just fu- vented by a Coventry civil engin- eer, Frank IL. Morgan--which em- ploy a sealed chamber of glycerine for their bearing. Thus, no matter where the housewife moves her kit- chen table, the legs will grow or shrink In order to become firm. If a leg of the dining room table is pulled off the carpet it will leng- then itselt without the slightest atention and no Pagking will be necessary. ANOTHER INOVATION ' Automoblies which rill be abso lutely rustproof are to be produced in England if the expectations of a large Birmingham manufacturer are realized. A secret experimental plant has b.en installed for the testing of a new process in conjunc- tion with untarnishable plating for fli metal surfaces of the machine. WOULD CHANGE - THO SECTIONS OF CRIMINAL CODE T. L. Church of Toronto Brings in Four New Bills Ottawa, Feb. 26--At yesterday's afternoon session of the House ot Commons, T. L, Church introduced four bills which were given first reading. One of them would change the Criminal Code to mcet what he stated were the new needs as a result of heavy motor traffic Another was a bill to amend the Post Office Act respecting news paper ownership. A third bill wou a amend the Navigable Waters' Pro- tection Act, and a fourth amend the Criminal Code respecting fire arms. Debate on the address in reply to the Speech from thc Throne then opened. From the Conger. vative benches, J. C. Brady (8 na) expressed his regret that he | Speech from the Throne had not "honestly indicated that there was something wrong in Canada." He believed that the people of the Dominion were going "to take in- to their own hands the destiny of Canada." The Goverument had fall- | ed in its duty in looking after the happiness, peace and comfort of Canadlans. Agricuiture was in 4 "parlous state," Mr. Brady ass€ rt- | ed. Deprecating unemployment, he | declared there was a continued in- crease in the number of men Who were out of work. "It is a dereliction of duty." charged, "it is lack of vision and lack of good Government to say | unemployment is not part of the duty of the Dominion." Canada's birthright in her fish- eries on the Aflantic and Paciflc coasts, Mr. Brady asserted were being "menaced" the United States. The United States, he proceeded, had been permitted to "cont rol' over air channels... TY "The election ENGLISH BISHOP UPHOLDS DIVORCE 3 ' by Claims Divorce For Adultery Is Justifiable And Right London, Feb, 26.--The Bishop of St. Edmundsbury and Ipswich, Rt. Rev. Walter Whittingham, makes a pronouncement on divorce and re- he | | signed as {sen is the marriage which is directly at var- {ance with opinions already ex- pressed by his fellow bishops. "There is nothing in divorce for ad- | ultery which fis irreconcilable with Christian principles," he declares. "The two things, divorce and re- marriage, go together in Our Lord's teaching, and whatever qualification the words given by St. Matthew and the general character | of the teaching imply in respect of | divorce, apply equally to re-mar-| riage. | "Indeed, I find it difficult to dis-| tinguish between the status of par- | ties after divorce lawfully pronoun- ced and the status brought about by the death of one of the parties, where the right to marry again is not questioned, nor would be ques- tioned, even if the conduct of the person desiring to remarry had been bad enough to contribute to- wards the death party." Passing from the case of the in- nocent party, whom he thinks is "always entitled to be married in church," the Bishop considers the more difficult question of the appli- cation of Christian principles to the cace of re-marriage of the guilty party. He says: "In this case there should be certainly some evidence of repent- ance and some kind of guarantee given by the behavior of the man or woman in question before the church could be expected to give her sanction to the new union. "I should certainly not be dispos- ed to censure an incumbent who, in a review of all the circumstances as they were known to him, decid- ed that it would be right for him to perform the marriage." The standpoint of the Church of England regarding the question of divorce was clearly indicated by Archbishop Lang, who, in his fare- well #ddress when leaving York for Canferbury, said: "Divorce is indisputably contrary to the teaching of the Gospel, for Christ laid it down that marriage was indissoluble, except by death. There are many hard and difficult cases, but I am convinced that if we open the gates and let through tha hard cases, we cannot resist the 'ide of gelf-will and passion that is ready to burst through." MUST NOT RESTRICT TRAFFIC The sprightly Mayo+ Walker ol New York, at a recent banquet, referred to a half billion A dollar traffic improvement programme as just an incident in the day to day Job of running the metropclis. After putting his plane through a series of loops and rolls, Jensen flipped it upside down and flew in this position for about a mile with a 40-mila southwesterly wind at his tail. Righting the plane, he headed it into the wind, turned it nupeide down again end then throt- tled his engine down to stalling apeed--ahout 30 miles an hour. The head wind carried him bac! at the rate of about ten miles The trick was done with the nose of the plane omewhat elevated. the elevation "cing attained by the reversed pilot by shoving the stick forward. Jensen attributes\fhe stability of he plane to the fact that it was tened with pure sprinz water ahortly before the test. by Ruth Mc- Cory, nine-year-old daughter of Herbert McCory. The model is de- a training plane. The Jensen factory is engaged now in irning out a larger plane.
