WEST GOAST PAN- AMERICAN HIGHWAY From British Columbia to Santiago is Hope of Auto Club i Los Angeles, Cal, Sept. 7.--A west coast Pan-American highway-- from British Columbia to Santiago, Chile--is the hope of the Automobile Club of Southern California. The route from Vancouver to San Diego is an accomplished fact, and corres« pondence has been entered into with the governments of the nations through which such a highway would pass in an cffort to bring an agree= ment. The auto club's plan provides for a mutual agreement' between the powers along the route to the end that roadwork which is projected 'in the interim will be considered as possible links of the great thorough- fare. The west coast project would extend from San Diego to Nogales, Ariz, thence into Guaymas, Mazat- lan, Guadalajara and Mexico City. 'Following through Guatemala, San Salvador, Managua, San Jpse and Panama, it would swing to the Pa- cific Coast again through the prin- cipal cities to Valparaiso and Santi- ago. There are severe engineering prob- lems to be overcome, as the proposed rounte traverses tropical jungles, great mountans and* stretches of moving sand, but these are not more difficult, the automobile club officials assert, than have been overcome in construction of California highways. Financing, asserts Ed. Lyman, presi- dent of the club, can be accomplish- ed in various ways--by subsidies, toll roads and governmental co-operation, ENGLISH COMPANY TO TOUR CANADA Montreal, Que., Sept. 7--An Eng- lish company which is to tour Can- ada in the play "Many Waters" ar- rivedyes terday on Canadian Pacific liner Duchess of York 'from Liver- pool.
