Variety pro- gram, Chicago Water Case Again Adjourned (By Canadian Press Leased Wire) Chicago, April 1.--The hearing on the diversion of lake water for sew- age disposal by the Chicago Sanitary District adjourned yesterday, with counsel for six complaining lake sta- tes threatening to "take the water out of the Chicago program," and counsel for the Sanitary District maintaining they had presented an ironclad case to show the necessity for continued diversion of water from Lake Michigan into the sewage can- als, Dream Ship; Canada is expecting to send some 1,000 exhibition birds to the world's poultry congress to be held in London, Eng., in 1930. | Collegiate | Chatter The Kiwanis Club ten dollar prize for the best essay on Mr, Gordon Campbell's recent lecture in the O. C.L auditorium has been won by Cy- ril Smith of 3rd form commercial, The reward was presented to Cyril Smith at the Kiwanis Club meeting Wednesday when principal A. E, O'Neill was speaker. Although the O.C.I. 1929 gymnastic display is now past history, it is his- tory of which the school can always be 'proud, This second annual event was a first-class presentation and the support given by the public goes to prove that the calibre of last year's display was such as to promote the come-again idea and we certainly can't believe that anyone was dis- appointed. Those who were present at the Wednesday evening's display last week had the pleasure of seeing Miss Maudie Cornwall, president of the Girls' Athletic Society present |' Miss N. Dryden with a beautiful bou- quet of roses and Stuart Calver presi- | | dent of the Boys' Society present Mr. C. S. Patterson with a desk fountain pen set, the presentations, of course, being on behalf of their respective societies, During the past week the students have passed through the Easter term examinations. The new timetable ef- fected the exams to a certain ex- tent, The A group students writing from 8 to 10 am. and from 1 to 3 pm.; B. Group students from 10.05 to 12 am. and 3.5 pm. In this way the half-hour study period before ex- aminations as was the previous cus- tom, was necessarily excluded. But exams are over for the pres- ent and the joys of holidays are once more known before the hard grind leading up to the June final com- mences, y The old school is gradually falling under the wreckers' bar, By the time school re-opens students will barely recognize their school with the old front portion lacking. Someone while gazing at the school in its dismantled state was heard to remark--"It looks as if a gang of school kids had spent a glorious hallowe'en." Too bad he didn't save his wise crack till Mon- day, then we could have come back with--"April fool, buddy, have a lem- on." ' The management of the gymnastic display wishes to express its apolo- gies to Mr. A. Mackenzie of the O. C.I. staff that his name was omitted from the program list of those re- sponsible for the showing of the dis- play. Mr. Mackenzie to fill in has in- structed several P.T. classes all year and was instrumental in considerable of the behind-the-scene work of the display. 4% Prince St. ) Oshawa, Ont. H. Fuck, Opt. D. Vision is so much accepted as a fact that we never give a thought to the pilot of an aeroplane, to think of the supreme test making possible his position. Perfect vision. Perfect eyes are essential, They not only pass a supreme test to fit themselves for the position but after the position is attained their work is constantly exposing them to supreme tests as well. Perfect vision is only possible correction being - as a means of protection as well as correction, protecting and conserving what we have in many cases and in others correcting and making per- fect through the wearing of the correction. The person who responds to the correction reaps a two fold benefit that of comfort and vision also; but the one whose vision is so long neglected that it will not respond should be sufficiently anxious to save what they have and in many cases nature will see fit to bridge the gap and will in time work with the lens and bring about improvement. To be continued next week. Prince Albert district in Saskat- chewan, has been selected for the lo- cation of 48 British families under the joint government scheme during this spring.
