The present Duke of Newcastle succeeded to the title on the death of his brother last May. It is understood motives of economy, more particularly as prompted by the incidents of the death duties consequent upon his succession to the title, have caused him to take this step. Clumber is situated in the fairest part of the Nottinghamshire, in the heart of what is known as the Dukerfes. Not far off is Chatsworth the seat of the Duke of Devonshire, and Welbeck, the seat of the Duke of Portland, Clumber House posses- ses a priceless collection of pictures which for the mext nine years are to be on loan to the Corporation Art Gallery in Nottingham. . The church at Clumber is very fine. The former Duké of Newcastle was an ardent Anglo-Catliolic. The present Duke was formerly Lord Francis Hope, A little more than a year ago he presented to Dorking The Glory Woods, 2 famous beauty spot well known to Londoners, to mark the coming of age of his son, H. P, C. Hope. Besides Clumber House the Duke has seats at Harrowlands, Dorking, and Castle Fd HARDWOOD FLOORS LAI BY EXPERT MECHANICS 01d floors finished like new. Storm windows, combination doors.
