PAGE Ti LY ink UOIAWA Vail vied, SATURDAY, JANUARY J, Ex-Alderman GEO. ALCHIN _ to the-- Board of Education 1.--I stand for a closer relationship between the Board of Education, the Teachers and the actual conditions existing in the Schools of Oshawa today. 2.--Protection. should be afforded for children crossing thiongh streets. 3.--1I believe that the Board of Education this year should go into the matter of improving our teaching facilities, generally. If chosen as one of the representatives of the elec- torate, you are assured of a service that a position on the Board of Education warrants. North East - Ward Vote ReElect Ald. S.G. A.S. McLeese as Alderman --IN THE-- North East Ward Mitchell for MAYOR A Progressive Policy for a Progressive City N1--A "4 mill tax rate on the dollar is too large for a pro- gressive city. It gives a bad impression to the new- comer, be he a resident or a prospective manufacturer, I will make a tremendous effort to have the tax rate for 1929 reduced to 40 mills. , 2--1 am in favor of submitting all money by-laws to the vote of the ratepayers, such as the purchase of the Hydro Electric and gas plants, the subway, sewage disposal plant, City Hall and Fire Hall. | 3-- TRANSPORTATION. With a view to better trans- "portation within the city limits the Oshawa Railway, Company should be approached and asked to estab- lish a bus system to take in such outlying districts as Ritson 'Road, north and south, King Street, east and west, College Hill, etc. '4_LIGHTING OF STREETS. The street lighting sys "tem of this city is far from adequate for a progressive city. We are in the country town class so far as our street lighting system is concerned. We want more light on our streets. 5--Are we going to allow the building of our. Technical School to be made a political football? Are we going to spend one hundred and seventy-five thousand dol- lars more for a new site and duplication of equip- ment in order to give a few votes to certain individ- uals who wish to make capital out of it? I am sin- cerely in favor of building the Technical School as an addition to the Collegiate Institute as recom- mended by the Oshawa Board of Education. 5--The coming year I promise to make a special study of the form of government under which Oshawa is ad- ministered. Such questions as, ward system, size of Council, two year term, commission government, City Manager, etc., will be considered. And I hope to sub- mit one or more nroposals to the electors at the end of the year. Vote As You Like But Vote!
