Club Beau- monde, 3 (Copyright 1928 by Audio Service, Chicago) ROBBERIES OCCUR AFTER PRISONER ESCAPES JAIL Mystery Man and Vagrant Walk Out of the Chatham County Jail Chatham, Dec, 26. -- Orval Shaw, will-o'-the-wisp thief and jail break- er, walked out of an unbarred win- dow of the county jail Saturday morning with a vagrant named Peter Brennan, apd both are still at large. What is worse, according to police, a series of burglaries very similar to those perpetrated while Shaw, the "mystery man" of "Skunk's Misery," was at large before November, have been committed since Saturday morning. Police believe that Shaw has gone back to his old haunts in the great swamp which successfully hid him from searchers during the space of a year. Police also believe that Shaw and Brennan have sep- arated. Guns Are Stolen During Saturday night the Robert Currie store at Duart was entered, and among the missing articles are a single-barrel shotgun, four revol- vers, three loaves of bread, cookies and cigars, Sunday night police in- vestigated a report that some sum- mer homes had been entered at Gov- ernment Park, a few miles from Duart. The cottages are owned by Detroiters, and it is known what is missing. Whoever entered the dwell- ings spent the night in one. There were indications that the burglar had slept there, and there were remnants of fresh bread and recently smoked cigars which, the police say, connect the intruder with the Duart robbery. Some old clothes had been dis- carded. Police say that this is a hibit of Shaw's, which they observed last summer when he managed to keep a jump ahead of the officers. There are strong suspicions that Shaw slept in one of those cottages. Chief Alva Peters said he had evi- dently separated from Brennan. PARTRIDGES FOUND IN NEST IN ALGOMA Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.,, Dec. 26.-- While out in the bush in the Pine Hill area Saturday afternoon, How- ard Miller, 11 years old, and Frank McCutcheon, 10 years old, found what both say was a partridge nest, with three young birds alive in it. The boys say they first saw the old bird, which they declare to be a part- ridge, and upon investigation found the nest, which was on the ground, covered with grass, over which the snow had fallen to some depth. The partridge, the boys say, had made an entry to the nest through the snow. Kissing, according to a research expert, doesn't change much. No, it just begins earlier and last long- er.-- Border Cities Star.
