TIPS FOR SAFER SPRING DRIVING Spring has finally arrived and that means it’s time to tweak your driving habits and your vehicles to help you enjoy spring driving in safety. Be alert for icy conditions caused by thawing snow, spring rains or mist, especially in shaded areas and on bridges and overpasses. These areas tend to freeze first. Look carefully for pedestrians; they can be difficult to see in rain and Warm weather brings out motorcyclists and cyclists. Stay focused on your driving to spot these smaller road users. Cyclists should wear brightly coloured clothing or safety vests, use lights, keep right and ride in single file. ‘When encountering a flooded road never try to cross the flooded section as the roadway under brakes and impair the vision of other motorists. ‘Warmer weather brings more children outside. Slow down and pay very careful attention in residential and school zones. Watch for teenagers who tend to be fixated on their texting, socializing and cell phones instead of paying attention to traffic. This is the time of year when potholes form due to freezing and thawing. Stay well back of the vehicle in front so you can see these wheel-bending potholes. Staying farther back from the vehicle in front of you will also reduce your chances of being hit by kicked-up rocks. --. continued on page 39 Fe IN-PORT AUTOMOTIVE Service & Repair Import Specialists 80 Vanedward Dr. Chris@Inportauto.com FOCUS - APRIL 2015 37
