Judy Rebick guest speaker at G Moms Gala On The Greens As sure as flowers burst forth every spring, you can count on the G-Moms springing to life as anew season begins. Gala On The Greens is the G Moms’ favourite fundraising event of the year, and members of this energetic group are busy putting the final touches on another exciting event. This year’s event will take place at the Royal Ashburn Golf Club on Saturday, May 9 and prom- ises to be another exciting event, featuring Judy Rebick as the guest speaker. Judy is a social justice expert and a human rights activist. She will speak on the “Power of Grassroots” and bring understanding and justification to the meaning of those words not only for the situation in Africa but also for world wide problems. She is a dynamic speaker who will entertain, but also challenge to make a difference in Judy Rebick Doors open to Gala On The Green at 10 a.m., so guests can enjoy freshly brewed coffee while shop- ping in the marketplace. There will be many new and exciting things to choose from as well as amazing prizes and Silent Auctions items that include airplane flights, theatre tickets, a week at a cottage and special excursions and experiences. G Moms are part of the ‘Grandmother to Grandmother Campaign’ and work in partnership with the ‘Grannies in Af- rica’ who are raising their orphaned grandchildren due to the Aids Pandemic. There are approximately 21 million orphans, while 5,000 children die each day in Sub-Sahara Africa. All proceeds from Gala On The Greens go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation and it is guaranteed that 90 percent of the funds get directly to the projects they support. This work also helps create income generating projects so that Grannies can become financially independent and send their grandchildren to school. Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Durham (BBBSND) is hosting their annual “Bowl for Kids’ Sake” event at Parish Lanes, Uxbidge, on Saturday, April 18 from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Participants can bow1 as individuals or form their own teams. “Bowl for Kids’ Sake” is one of the organiza- tions larges fund raising events.
