Upset with attitude of Focus article Dear Editor I was very upset at the ‘thumbs down’ in the Au- gust issue of Focus on Scugog and the general attitude of your articles that portray the residents of Portview Road as simple NIMBYS. We have very valid objections to this huge devel- opment on our little street. We have been voicing our objections to both the town councils and the developer for nine years. Before you do make comments that the general public view as gospel you should be researching both sides, I have up to now been an avid reader of your publication but am very disappointed at your one sided view on this matter. Thave attached our street's list of issues and would be glad to discuss this further if you are interested ina balanced reporting. Susan Martin Port Perry Dog walkers please stoop and scoop Dear Editor I would like to give a “thumbs down’ to the lady who was walking two beautiful golden retrievers at the fair grounds on October 1st, who failed to “stoop and scoop” when one of her dogs stopped to go the bathroom. She just kept walking. One would think that if she purposely drove to the fairgrounds to let her dogs have arun, she would be prepared to poop and scoop. She could have asked my girlfriend and I (who were walking our dogs right behind her) to borrow a bi Many people use the fairgrounds track for exercise and I’m sure they would prefer to go home with clean shoes. Pet owners like that give us all a bad name. Beth Stewart Port Perry our cover World War Il veteran Doug Franks, who fought in Europe and India, recalls young men throwing their hats in the air and cheering when war was declared on Germany... not knowing six years of fighting lay ahead. See our Remembrance Day section starting on page 29 for memories of local veterans. Photo by j. Peter Hvidsten 2 FOCUS - NOVEMBER 2014 Happy not to be living in Caesarea Dear Editor I couldn’t agree more with the thoughts expressed by Darlene Gauweiler, in her letter regarding the Caesarea park (September issue of Focus on Scugog). I lived in Caesarea for about five or six years, several years back, and I also think a skateboard park where it is planned, will be nothing but bad for a huge majority of the town’s inhabitants. The thought of this facility in the middle of the village makes me happy I no longer live there. How perfect is the idea of having the skateboard park behind the community centre? I can’t think of a better spot. I doubt too many would want to pass by that main intersection in Caesarea, with the sights and noises that ultimately will await them. Iremember how peaceful it was around that area, years back, when I would walk to the store, or take a leisurely ride with my son on my bike. It's a bitter pill to swallow and I am glad I won't have to partake in witnessing the eyesore. I feel for the major- ity of the town’s citizens, whom I imagine will end up having to swallow that bitter pill. Sincerely, G. Snowden “Thumbs up” to hospital staff Dear Editor I'd like to give a big “heart felt” thumbs up to Dr. Tse and all the staff in the Port Perry Hospital’s Emergency Department for their efficient, speedy and compassionate treatment when my husband had his heart attack on Thursday, September 11. My thanks also to the thoughtful lady and her daughter who kept me company in the waiting room. Thankfully, he’s home and doing well. We are so blessed here in Port Perry. Lily eines Perry Ceasarea skateboard park rebuttal Dear Editor In response to Ms. Gauweiler’s letter, 1 wanted to let her know the rationale for choosing Putsey Park as the most suitable location for the skate park. 1. It falls under the care of the Township and will fold into the maintenance for the park as part of their exist- ing budget. 2. It is indeed “smack dab in the middle of town” and will be in plain sight to discourage undesirable behav- iour as traffic is steady in that area. Research show: skate parks need to be out in the open. Her other points: a) “what will become an eye sore”. There are plenty of skate parks that are designed to incorporate the at- tributes of the park that houses them. Please turn to page 52
