Llewellyn has been a resident of Scugog Township for 25 years, and an educator in Al- berta and Durham for 32 years. In addition to this, his first novel, he has written two plays staged by the Durham Shoe- \ } Heir of Promise string Performers. In 1988, Llewellyn’s play, Tenting, won top prize in Alberta Culture’s One-Act Comedy Playwriting Competition. Heir of. Promise follows the life of Jake Chin, a Chinese Ameri- can two-tour volunteer in the war in Vietnam who deserts his post while on a secret mission in Laos. Jake then assumes the identity of a dead Canadian friend and comes to Canada to start a new life. With his new identity, he finds love and prosperity, yet unresolved issues from his childhood in California lurk, threatening his happiness, life, and others dear to him. Two local independent bookstores have supported Llewellyn’s first venture into novel writing. The launch is at Blue Heron Books, 62 Brock Street West, Uxbridge, 6 -9 p.m., Thursday, October 23. There is a book signing at Books Galore and More on Saturday, October 25, 1 -5 p.m. The price at these two local bookstores is $16.99 plus HST.
