tL Continued from page 15 Arnold Hodgkins had the magical ability to paint a variety of subjects in an appealing style, from the haunted faces of the soldiers in war-torn Italy, to mystical biblical pieces, to realistic por- traits of people, to landscapes of Northern On- tario’s natural beauty. Samples of all of Arnold’s genres will be displayed at the upcoming local exhibition. Carol is looking forward to greeting art lovers to her home to share the remarkable experience of viewing the dramatic Arnold Hodgkins’ collection, crafted over 50 years — marking time and mark- ing space — the experiences of one man’s lifetime captured on canvas for eternity. This thought-provoking poem, by Arnold Hodgkins, describes his feelings about a person's lifetime: “What is a lifetime — tell me, friend — Amile, a year, threescore and ten; Asmile that trembles on a hill When all the smiles have loved and gone? A lifetime is a silver cup — off balance on the rim of dawn.” By Lynn Campbell Focus on Scugog painted by her father. One of Carol's most cherished paintings is this portrait of her mother, Photo by J.
