[Gta] WAITERS Yes, we still have ice! Although the pictures on this page might suggest the ice on Lake Scugog was gone, before April 21, when Focus went to print, we can assure you it was not. In fact, over Easter weekend, a good part of the lake was still in the icy grip of winter. One year ago on April 13, the ice was gone, but this year we are creeping towards the latest “ice out” date ever recorded. That took place on April 29, 1965. But, it looks like we'll have to wait a little longer to see if a new record is written. We'll keep you posted! Port Perry waterfront, with levels rising over the breakwater in Palmer Park and the wharf covered with more than 6 inches of water. Further out, off the end of the Queen St. wharf, a huge ice field still remained in the middle of the lake over the Easter weekend. At right, the Port Perry boat launch became inaccessible due to the high water, prompting warning signs to be erected. Photos taken April 17, 2014 54 FOCUS - MAY 2014
