BIA 2014 Amabassadors Amanda Jackson and Wayne Bauer from Queen Beans/Eco Port have been selected the Port Perry BIA 2014 ‘Ambassadors of the Year’! The pair have been members of the BIA Board of Directors since 2009 and continue to be active members in the organization, always supporting the downtown events! Amanda bridged the connection with Little Britain Motor Car company, helping to establish the first ‘Brits on the Lake Car Show’. She also assisted in “ ding-up” the first itors in the BIA’s famous Harvest Chili Cook-off! Amanda and Wayne have always been there to help on event days, making sure the bands and talent downtown keep hydrated! Wayne has also been instrumental in a venture that the BIA took on two years ago, decorating the gazebo in Palmer Park for the holiday season, braving our sub-zero temperatures during set-up and take down! Local craft gallery invites participation in an exhibit called Presence/Presents In celebration of their 10th anniversary in Port Perry, Meta4 Contemporary Craft Gallery is pleased to announce an invitiation for participation in its “Ten Squared Art Show”. The theme of the exhibit is “Presence/Presents”. Each piece will start with the same ten inch by ten inch wood panel. After that it’s up to the artist. The works will be sold in a silent auction with proceeds to the artist as well as Arts Can Circle. It’s also an anonymous show, so bidders will not know the art- ist’s name until the end of the show. The Gallery is providing the panel and there are no fees to participants. It’s open to all media, includ- ing metal, ceramics, mixed media and more. Artists must register in advance and agree to the submission requirements. Ten Squared will be featured at META4 Gallery from June 18 to July 2, 2015. Meta4 Gallery opened in July 2005 in the front section of what is now Eco Port, in the heart of Port Perry’s picturesque shopping area. Six months later the artist-owners moved a few doors west into a larger retail space to accommodate their growing roster of Ontario artists. The Gallery has won numerous awards, includ- ing BIA Ambassador of the Year and the 2014 Art of Transition Creative Award for “cultural champion in business” Meta4 invites established and emerging artists to join the celebration and raise funds for ArtsCan. Circle, a registered charity dedicated to linking cre- ative artists with Indigenous youth at risk in Canada. From April 18 to May 17 the Heritage Centre will host an exhibit put on by past high school art students now in university and college. The exhibition is called “From Little Acorns Mighty Oaks Do Grow” Matt Condie and Rachel Callan, recent graduates of Port Perry High School, have helped to organize this art show of 15 past art students. Following the exhibit, students of R.H. Cornish will take a turn showing how the first seeds of art grow in our local children. This exhibit takes place May 24 to June 21. Opening events take place on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, May 24th from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission to open- ings are free and light refreshments will be available. The Heritage Centre is located on the 2nd floor of the Scugog Community Centre at 1655 Reach St., Port Perry.
