Caw \eliaht Wall. & Tree Light, Downtown Port Perry was glowing November 15 as the local BIA held their annual Candlelight Walk and Tree Lighting to launch the Christmas season in town. Hundreds came out to enjoy festivities and take part in this popular annual event. Mailbox Dear Focus... Thumbs Up to our local paramedics Dear Editor I would like to give a Thumbs Up to two of our local paramedics. Driving home from Port Perry, I noticed an ambu- lance stopped in the northbound centre lane on Simcoe Street in front of the retirement home, one of the am- bulance attendants was on the side of the road holding a German shepherd by it’s collar. It appeared to have possibly been hit although still standing the dog seemed to be ok. I witnessed him bring the dog to the back of the ambulance and put him inside before they drove off. 1 am so happy they kept the dog to make sure he was ok. Hopefully they have found the dog’s owner and the dog is alright. These paramedics do everything they can to help us when we need them, it’s nice to see them help our four- legged friends too. They made my day. Darlene Gauweiler Caesarea, Ontario Thumbs down changes at post office Continued from page 2 enjoy venturing to our historical post office, stopping at a few other local merchants along the way. I am, an hope you will join me, pushing back at this ridiculous tactic of being sent to a consumer retailer to complete my postal business in hopes I spend a few dollars. limmediately contacted Canada Post’s Head Office and spoke with our Postmaster to advise them of m disgust, indicating that I will not attend this location to pick my parcel up. They advised me that by contacting 1 800 267 1177, my package would be re-routed back to our local Post Office for pickup. I further learned that new postal de- livery trucks now shuttle packages between the depot and SDM, posing an additional environmental concern for me. I successfully flagged our residence to ensure that any future packages remain at the Post Office where I will continue to conduct my business. Being sent to a business in hopes that I will make an additional purchase is simply wrong and only I will decide when I need to go to a chosen business. With the holiday season near approaching, I urge you to do the same. C. Ryan Edgar Port Perry MORE LETTER ON PAGE 52 FOCUS - DECEMBER 2013 31
