Starting in April with the Easter Bonnet and Easter Egg Hunts and followed by Diva Night, Brits By The Lake, Canoe The Nonquon, Dragon Boat Festival, Summer Solstice, Farmer's Market, Canada Day, Summer Breeze Festival and the recent Harvest Chili Cookoff. Anyone who thinks there’s nothing to do in a small town need only look at Port Perry to dispel that myth. Congratulations to all. Thumbs Down - We have to look into the mirror and give ourselves a thumbs down this month. In our © last edition we published a wrong date for the BIA Harvest Festival promotion. It doesn’t seem to matter how hard we try to avoid errors, how many times we proofread the articles and ads - something is bound to slip by that looks so obvious once it’s in print. Then, of course, it’s too late to correct. So in the spirit of faimess we give ourselves a thumbs down this month. Touche! Thumbs Up - Congratulations to the coaches and play- ers of the Port Perry Jacks who won the Eastern 3g Canadian Bantam Softball Fastpitch Champion- ship Tournament last month in Nova Scotia. Port Perry defeated the Teeswater Otters 9-3 in the final game to win gold. Ironically, it was the Otters who de- feated Port Perry 5-3, in the qualifying tournament held in July. A big ‘thumbs up’ to the lads! Thumbs Up - to Larry and Fran Taylor who 25 years ago this month took on the Ford-Mercury dealership 3g for the Port Perry area. The Taylor family operated a garage on Hwy. 7A (now Petro-Canada) for a number of years, before purchasing their current loca- tion. We wish them continued success. Thumbs Down - Here's one directed at vendors who sell worms in styrofoam containers. She points out Crna styrofoam is harmful to the environment and many fishermen leave their bait containers laying along the shoreline. The action of not putting them in the garbage results in pieces of the white styrofoam found floating on the water and in the weeds along the shore. Thumbs Down - School is back and the daily exodus of public and high school students into town during Piven hour has started. Unfortunately some of the kids use the sidewalks along Queen Street as a dump, dropping pizza boxes, sandwiches, pop cans and wrappers, creating an unsightly mess. Come on kids - carry your trash back to school and put it in the garbage. 12-09-24 9:12AM
