Don Kerr recognized for his tireless work on behalf of Canadian war veterans Donald Kerr of Port Perry was one of 19 persons from across Ontario to receive the Minster of Veterans Affairs Commendation on July 27 at an impressive ceremony held in Mississauga. This is awarded to individuals, who in an exemplary way, contributed either to the care and well-being of vet- erans or to the remembrance of the sacrifices and achieve- ments of Canadians in armed conflict. Mr. Kerr, a well known figure around Scugog, is a retired major of the Canadian Forces who served during the Second World War. He was also an aide de camp to two former lieutenant governors of Ontario. In 1999, under the auspices of the Dominion Institute, Mr. Kerr began speaking to countless public and high school students in the Greater Toronto Area about the sacrifices of Canadians in war. 105, Mr. Kerr sensed a waning interest among the youth he spoke to, so he decided to produce a DVD of the Canadian Forces in action. He viewed more than 100,000 feet of film at the Library and Archives in Ottawa and ultimately was able to produce a DVD which commanded the attention of youth.
