Here’s a little something to think about as Christmas nears...a way you can help your community and your local store owners. Ask yourself, which three locally owned businesses you’d miss most if they were no longer available to you in Port Perry? When you've got the answer, drop by, say hello and pick something up. Your purchases are what keeps those. businesses around. This idea comes from a group known as “the 3/50 project” and is designed to reconnect consumers with the local, independent businesses in their town. Their message is quite simple... shop. with local, independent stores today and they help fund the community the rest of the year through donations and contri- butions. Following is a breakdown of how much money, per $100 spent, is returned to the community by three different groups. Locally owned, independent stores return about $68 to the community through taxes, payroll, donations and other expenditures. National chain stores and/or ‘big box’ stores return only $43 per $100 spent. On-line - of all the consumer choices, ‘on-line’ shopping is the worst, returning a big fat ‘$00’, unless you live in the same place the business is located. Just a little reminder to shop locally this Christmas season... it’s good for everyone! Water Softeners & Water Tre 8.
