GHOSTS & GHASTLY DEATHS Scugog has gained a worldwide reputation for its al- leged ghosts. Stories about the Ghost Road, alleged sight- ings at Jester’s Court and reported ghosts at the Town Hall have been the subject of studies, documentaries and TV programmes. As part of this year’s Halloween celebrations, the Lake Scugog Histori- cal Society is organizing a walking tour entitled “Ghosts and Ghastly Deaths” for the evening of Tuesday, October 26 in Port Perry. During the walk, stories of Scugog’s alleged ghosts will be given but it will focus on those in Port Perry. In addi- tion, true accounts will be given of a number of unusual, and in some cases, quite gruesome deaths and even a mur- der or two, all within the downtown of Port Perry. To add to the atmosphere and join in the fun, partici- pants are encouraged to dress in ghoulish, ghostly or scary costumes. At the end of the walk, prizes will be awarded to the best male, female and children’s outfits. Whether you believe in spirits or not, the stories on the walk are designed to entertain and inform, and maybe even send a shiver up and down your spine. Local historian and Lake Scugog Historical Society president, Paul Arculus, will lead the walk. There will be a $5 charge for adults but children are free. Advanced tickets will available at Books Galore or More on Perry Street, in Port Perry, beginning on October 15. The walk begins at 7 o’clock on Tuesday, October 26 starting at the Palmer monument in Palmer Park. The tour will then wind its way up Queen Street to Jester’s Court. It will take just over an hour, rain or by moonlight. Bring your flashlights and be prepared to be surprised. Our future, our children’s and grandchildren’s future lies here in Scugog.
