Artisans interpret devastation of Port Perry’s 1884 fire with works of art The Scugog Council for the Arts and the Scugog Shores Heri- tage Centre and Archives proudly present an art exhibition entitled “Out of the Ashes” to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the rebuilding of Port Perry. On July 4, 1884, a horrific fire spread through the town destroy- ing much of the downtown core. No other single incident has had a more profound impact on the present and future of this indus- trious community. Come and see how local art- ists have interpreted the emo- tional impact, personal loss, and community strength that such an experience presented to the town and its citizens. Using artifacts from the museum's collection for inspira- tion, they have used their imagi- nations to create original works of art on this theme. Works of art will be displayed with the museum artifacts which inspired them, as well as the art- ists on explanations of how they view the piece. And if you see something you truly love, all original pieces of art will also be available for sale when the exhibit closes. “Out of the Ashes” runs until November 7 at the Scugog Shores Heritage Centre at 1655 Reach Street (inside the Scugog Arena).
