Article produced positive comments Dear Editor, I just wanted to write a note of thanks to Jonathan van Bilsen for the professional approach to the interview and resulting article in your publication. Thave received extremely positive comments about the “Dan The Poster Man” article and in fact, it has re- sulted in a number of inquiries from prospective clients. Ihave also connected with the owners of the Super Video Store on 7A and have loaned them several original vintage movie posters for display throughout the store. (I encourage people to drop by the store and check out the display. It looks fantastic) In closing, I want to commend the team at Focus on Scugog for producing such an excellent publication that is clearly growing in reach throughout Durham Region. Dan The Poster Man “Scugog’s locally owned and operated General Insurance Broker” With over 130 years of Broker experience, Emmerson Insurance Brokers Ltd. have been serving Scugog Township and surrounding reas with Competitive, Comprehensive and Personalized service since 1917. 4 FOCUS - SEPTEMBER 2010 The pros and cons of our new park The number one “pro” of course is the excellent de- sign of interlocking brick, new boardwalks and unusual, interesting and beautiful floral gardens. The architects and construction crews are to be commended on this outstanding work of art. The most important “con” is the need to sidestep those ugly goose droppings on all walkways. Another “con” is the lack of shaded seating for our senior citizens and parents with babies or small children. Most new benches are in the full sun and there is little seating for passengers awaiting our popular tour boat. Also, there seems to be little progress with respect to the drainage of the standing water between the gazebo and the waterfront walkway - and there should be an interlocking or boardwalk connection from the new walkway to the south pathway to Curts Street. Claire McIntosh Perry Editor’s Note: We understand the drainage problem has been addressed and will be fixed up later this fall. Readers greatly appreciate articles Dear Editor: On a recent trip through parts of the northeastern USA, I could not believe the number of bicycle lanes that we saw along the side of many of the highways and streets and the large number of cyclists taking advan- tage of them. Since returning to our Scugog Island home, I have been thinking it would be unfortunate that while con- struction is underway that a bike path/lane couldn’t be incorporated into the plan so residents of the “Island” could ride into town. I would also like to see the bike path along the inside portion of the casueway leading into the town. We have a car route... a new bus route. about a walking/biking trail for the citizens vot Seugog Island? Mike Steele Scugog Island Editor’s Note: We travelled sections of northern New York and Vermont recently and noticed the same bike friendly lanes along side of highways... what a great idea!
