J PHILP PONTIAC BUICK LIMITED May your holiday season be truly blessed, Staff & Management rk By Erin Ruth Hillyer "Erin, It's Christmas Eve! Are you excited?" my mother asked me, "Yes, I guess 80," I replied. "Miss Rutherford, take a look at all the presents under the tree now!" my father said, pointing toward the tree and all the presents. "Presents!" I said to myself. "Oh no! I forgot to buy presents!" I rushed up the stairs and closed the door to my room. I snatched my piggy bank from its hiding place and emptied out all the money. "10, 11, 12, 13, 23, 28, 29, 30, 31," I said, counting out the nickels, dimes and pennies. "32! Oh no! I can't buy my family any- thing for thirty-two cents! I guess I will just have to make thom something," I said to my- self. I went back downstairs and found some paper and cray- ons in the hutch drawer. I found some boxes and wrap- ping paper in the basement and I took them all back up into my room. I worked on my drawings for hours and finally came back downstairs to put three presents under the tree. My Mom told me it was time for bed, so I went and got ready for bed. While I brushed my teeth, I thought about the presents I had made for my PEACE Let Christmas joy embrace you. That all may share peace & goodwill is our holiday wish. COMMUNITY NURSING HOME family and got very upset. I thought I was horrible for not getting them anything special from the stores. "All I got them were some dumb pic- tures I drew," I said to myself. I put on my nightgown and crawled under the covers. I turned off the lamp on my night-table and fell fast asleep. The next morning, my brother and I got up at 5:00 a.m. and got my parents up. We waited for them to get ready and then we bolted down the stairs. "Wow!" my little brother screamed staring wide-eyed at the huge pile of presents un- der the tree. "Let's check and see if Santa Claus ate all of his cookies and drank all his milk," my Dad said to Dylan. We checked and the glass of milk was empty and what was a pile of cookies was now just crumbs. We cleared the dishes and made the table for breakfast- pancakes. We took down our stockings and went through them while we were eating our breakfast. . Once we were done, it was time to open presents. By coin- cidence, my Mom picked out the present I made for her. "To Mom, from Erin," she said, reading the tag from the present out loud. My Mom took off the wrapping paper and opened up the took out the picture I dréw. I began to cry. "I'm sorry, Mom! I wanted to get you something special from the stores but I didn't have enough money," I told her between sobs. "My Mom put the present down and wiped away my tears. "Honey, this present is the most special present you've ever given me, and not because you bought from a store but because it was from the bottom of your heart!" I smiled and we hugged. "Merry Christmas, Mom!" I said. "Merry Christmas, Erin!" she said.
