4 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, December 17, 1991 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" Greenbank water project delayed by missing part A missing part has delayed the completion of a water pro- Jectin Greenbank. According to Yvonne Chris- tie, the Township of Scugog's regional councillor and vice- chairman of the region's works committee, a part for the pump- house has not been installed yet, and this has resulted in the delay of the project. As a result of this delay, councillor Christie says she doubts the project will be com- pleted before Christmas. After the work at the pumphouse is completed, pressure tests must still be conducted. The project which is under- way in Greenbank will see the Joining of two systems into one. An old corridor at the four cor- ners will be connected with a system supplying water for two new subdivisions. Once the project is completed Greenbank will then be on a water system. According to Tom Sloley, pro- ject engineer at the Durham Region works department, the consulting firm of Totten Sims Hubicki has just begun the pro- ject and is expected to submit a report by December, 1992. The study entitled "Feasibili- ty Study for Long-term Water Supply for Small Urban Areas in Scugog, Uxbridge, and Brock" will look at options in supplying long-term water sup- plies to the smaller areas in the three northern municipalities. According to Mr. Sloley the report will look at a number of alternatives for supplying wa- ter to these areas. These in- clude bringing water down from Lake Simcoe, getting wa- ter from Lake Ontario, as well as other options. Mr. Sloley says the purpose of the study is to look at how much water is available to sup- ply water to these areas. He says the rate of growth in these areas can be determined only after there is a good indication of how much water can be sup- plied. The report will look at bring- ing water to communities such as Greenbank, Cannington and Sunderland. The $40,000 study will look at the costs and op- tions of bringing water to these communities. According toa pa in mid-July by the regional rreleased works committee, the project ° will look at the possibility of ; drawing water from Lake Sim- : coe and pumping it to small ur- ban areas such as Scugog, Ux- bridge and Brock via a loop | system and treatment plant. There was some hope that the study would include Scugog Island and Caesarea, but a re- cent letter from Totten Sims Hubicki has indicated that it was not possible to include these two areas in the study cri- teria. After the report has been submitted to the works depart- ment, it will then decide what course of action to take. Holiday Tradition...
