Christmas isn't far away... just a few more days now...and the joyous yuletide season will be over. Family News Events by Mabel Cawker b aesareqie i Bill and Kay Ingram of Nestleton have just returned from an enjoyable month in Florida. Their granddaughter Christina Ewart of Blackstock flew down and spent a few days, and drove back with them and all enjoyed the drive home. Bill attended Winter Haven Lions Club in U.S.A. on several occasions and was really impress- ed with their club. meetings. Saturday evening was a family pre-Christmas dinner for the In- Myrtle Sunday School Christmas Pageant enjoyed by all By Sonja Graham Everyone young and old had a wonderful time at the Sunday School Christmas pageant last Saturday evening. The pot luck supper gave everyone a big selec- tion of foods to choose from and a tasty assortment of Christmas treats were enjoyed for dessert. We were entertained by an ar- ray of wonderful Christmas songs, amusing skits and jokes. The nativity was beautifully per- ~ formed and brought back to our minds the true meaning of ~ Christmas. 'Many thanks go to Marg" - Stevens, Terry Cameron and Bon- nie Reynolds for all their hard work and time that went into ".. preparing the children for the pageant. Thanks go also to everyone who worked behind the scenes to prepare for the pot luck and pageant and also aid in the closing up. It was greatly appreciated. : Once again this year Santa came for a little visit. A goodie bag was handed out to every boy and girl after having a chat with Santa. On the third Sunday of Advent Peter Fallaise and his daughter Ashley lit the advent candle. Next Sunday, Dec. 29, the Christmas Candlelight Service will be at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Just a reminder for the holidays - please don't drink and drive. Belated anniversary wishes to Doug and Marg Dempsey and a happy birthday to Doug Dempsey. The Seagrave Park Board wishes to thank everyone for coming to their annual Christ- mas dance held this past Sat- urday at the Sunderland Are- na. As is the case every year, the dance was a huge success and everyone had a great time. As usual, the bus that was chartered provided every- one with a safe trip to and fro. The Park Board would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and lots of good health and happiness in 1991. U.C.W. Afternoon Unit Meeting On Dec. 10, Neta Fish of Cad- mus, hosted the Christmas meeting at her attractive home with eight members present. Leader Mabel Cawker welcomed everyone, and read a prayer writ- ten by Marion Taylor Ford on the Christmas theme. Minutes were read by Anne Emerson...in the absence of Barb Weir...and ap- proved as read by the leader. A card was signed for Marg. France, and Anne Vanderheul to wish her a speedy recovery. Neta Fish presented the treasurer's report showing a good balance on hand. Roll call was a gift for the lady on your left...very interesting! The inspirational devotional was led by Neta...she set up three candles for Christmas. She open- ed with hymn "O Come All Ye Faithful"'...organist Mabel Cawker. The scripture reading Luke 2: 8 - was given by Marion Hall. We must honor Christmas all year round and keep it in our hearts. First Candle - Joy that fills our hearts for the Joy of Jesus birth. Second candle - to tell of God's love for the Joy of His son. The second hymn "It Came Upon The Midnight Clear" and the third Candle - the angels sang..."Peace on Earch Goodwill Among Men"...closing with prayer "Thanks for the coming of the son." An oral contest was introduced by the leader and all responded with good answers. A letter was read by Jean Williams asking for volunteers for Community Care. Meeting closed with benediction. A goodly number of Christmas cheer boxes were packed for delivery...followed by a lovely lunch served by Neta topped off with a refreshing cup of coffee or tea...and sociability was enjoyed. Appreciation to Neta was ex- pressed by Marion Hall. Doll Draw A Success Congratulations to local folks...Chris Davis, Scugog Pt. Rd., Nestleton, Hailey and Lucy Wilson, Port Perry, and Norma Greer of Prince Albert, were among those lucky enough to win a coveted prize of a beautiful doll, 433-7505 at the Oshawa General Hospital Auxiliary draw...held on Friday, Dec. 6...a record success! Ruth Gay of Courtice, and Glennyce MacDonald of Oshawa, were the delighted conveners of this suc- cessful annual draw. Hope to have another next year! On Saturday evening Keith and Nancy Prout of Oshawa, held a house warming in their lovely new home. Guests present for the event were: parents, Len and Doris Prout of Toronto, and friends Harry and Ruth Gay of Courtice. Later the Gays and Pro- uts dined at the Oshawa Golf Club. The Gay and Prout families are residents of Caesarea during the summer months. Community Church Caesarea The Caesarea Church people met with a large congregation on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. The church and the adjoining hall were nicely decorated for the festive season. Robt. Heayn con- ducted the service using text from The 23rd Psalm. His sermon title was '"The Good Shepherd." Christmas carols were sung with Kathleen Watts at the piano. After the splendid service a time of fellowship with delicious food was enjoyed by the congregation in the church hall. Later the children sang joyfully, Christmas carols in the church. The Sunshine Club will meet after school on Thursday, and all the children are invited to come along...they will be welcome. For Advent III Sun- day, the candles were lit by Ralph Sadler and Leslie MacKenzie. Rev. Dale Davis conducted the service and presented a strong message re - "What Are We To Do?" with Leslie, the scripture reader. The children's story was based on the meaning of "Glory"' - led by the minister. The choir sand '"No Room Within' and "A Child Is Born" with capable Carol Mairs at the piano. The Sacrament of Baptism was celebrated. Lindsay Jean, daughter of Dale and Dianne Williams of Hayden:was baptized. Minister Rev. D. Davis was assisted by the Clerk of Session Richard MacKenzie in a most im- pressive ceremony. Many relatives and friends were pré- sent for the baptismal cememony. The people of the church welcom- ed little Lindsay Jean joyfully and reverently into the church fami- ly. The grandparents Arnold and Jean Williams hosted 18 relatives for noon dinner and 20 after the service. Daughter Janice was home from Edmonton for this special occasion. Offering gathered by Robert Mairs and son Steven. Service closed with the beautiful old carol "It Came Upon The Midnight Clear" (1842 - 1900). Benediction and Three Fold Amen. The Sam Cawkers of Scugog Pt. Rd., were very pleased to have grandson Jason Cawker and friend Valerie Jait of Scar- borough and Toronto respective- ly, this past Sunday for a great visit.
