General Motors Corporation chairman Robert Stempel will make the announcement via satellite to the GM facilities. The purpose of this an- nouncement according to a press release will be "to commu- nicate relevant provisions of the comprehensive program en- dorsed by the Board of Direc- tors to improve profitability and cash flow in 1992 and be- yond." Rumors have been circulat- ing for close to a week that the announcement will affect some of the General Motors facilities in Oshawa. But GM officials have denied the rumor that it will be closing one of its two car plants by 1995 and moving south of the border throwing close to 4,000 employ- eesout of work. Park project gets support The Seagrave Parks Associa- tion is seeking a commitment from the Township of Scugog for its proposed multi-purpose recreational facility. Seagrave Centre is a 48-foot by 26-foot multi-purpose build- ing housing washrooms, stor- age areas, clubhouse, change- room, kitchen and refreshment facilities. It is to be located in Seagrave Park. - The Seagrave Parks Associa- tion has been planning this fa- cility for a number of years. Keith Puckrin, committee chairman, and Doug Dempsey, past-chairman presented the plans and the financing ar- rangements to council on Dec. 16 Mr. Dempsey says the total cost of the five-year program will be approximately $192,000, with $107,000 of the cost in 1992 when the building a activity centre is construct- ed. The costs for the remaining four years will include a park- ing lot and baseball backstop in 1993, north diamond lights in 1994, a tennis court in 1995 and: tennis court lightsin 1996. The cost of the first year of the project would be split be- tween a number of different sources, Mr. Dempsey said. Op- erating on approximately a one-third split, the cost will be shared by the township, the as- sociation, Mariposa Township and a Wintario grant of $35,000. Mr. Dempsey was on hand to request council to endorse the plan and earmark $25,000 to- wards the project. Council threw its support be- hind the project, promising to provide a letter of endorsement for the grant. The application deadline for the grant is mid-January, therefore the letter was needed before Christmas, Mr. Demp- sey said. PICK-UPS & VANS 90 CHEVROLET CL Astro 8 Pass.
