Kelly thanked everyone for the gifts and best wishes extended to her and Jay. On Saturday morning Kelly and Jay were honoured with a bridal shower from the VanCamp relatives at the home of Susan and Ste- phen Saywell, Oshawa. Last Sunday, David and Mary Lou Kellogg and girls of Welcome visited her parents Noreen and Neil Malcolm and attended Sunday morning church at Blackstock United. Merle Thompson of Saskatchewan and formerly of Nestleton on Tuesday, October 15. Sympathy is extended to his family and friends. Merle taught school at Purple Hill before entering the ministry. Glad to report that Joan Graham is home again from her stay in Port Perry Hospi- tal following surgery last week. Next week there will be no service on Sunday at the Blackstock United Church due to Anniversary Services in Nestleton when the guest speaker will be Rev. Jack Hill formerly of Columbus, now of Langley, British Columbia. On Saturday evening there are still tickets available for Din- ner Theatre at Nestleton hall entitled "Who Done It at Nel- lie's Place?" The following Sunday, No- vember 3, will be Blackstock Anniversary with special guests The Klusmeiers-Ron and Kris. On Saturday, No- vember 2, a workshop for all church folk interested in Mu- sic for Worship will be con- ducted by the Klusmeiers at 1:30 p.m - 4:30 p.m. In the eve- ning a concert open to every- one will be held at 7:30 p.m . On Saturday evening Neil and Noreen Malcolm, Cecil and Marie Gibson, Joanne Lee, Jennifer -and Dana, Ge- rald and Joyce Kelly joined a large number from his congre- gations in Colborne area to wish Rev. Victor Parsons a happy 60th birthday at a sur- prise party at the Colborne United Church. Following a delicious dinner, a delightful programme roasted their min- ister in a delightful way. His three daughters, Janet Lead- beater, Marlene Buttery and Lynda Parsons sang several songs, the highlight of which was the one they composed "Our Father is Sixty." On Sunday afternoon the annual McLaughlin Reunion was held at the Haydon Com- munity Hall with over 40 members of the clan attending even though several members are away on a bus trip to Nashville. Present from this area were Roy and Edith McLaughlin, Harold and Ei- leen McLaughlin, Mrs. Bertha Mclaughlin, Terry and Kelly Gatchell, Sara and Robert. Kelly Gatchell was in charge of the afternoon activities. A fine time was had by all present. : Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Pel- lett of Rochester, New York have been spending a few days with Bill and Ruth Marconi. Both the Pelletts and the Mar- conis along with others from this community spend their winters at the same park in Florida. There was an excellent crowd at the fifth annual Blackstock Fiddle Contest sponsored by the Blackstock Agricultural Society and held at the Rec Centre. Entertain- ment between classes was pro- vided by the Mundell Family of Warsaw. The duties of M.C. were conducted ably by Rich- ard MacKenzie in his own de- lightful manner. Winners of the various classes were as follows: 12 years and under, Deanna Dol- stra, Whitby, 13-19 years, 1. James Bickle, Tavistock, 2. April Verch, Pembrook, 19-59 years, Albert Maher, Lake- field. 2. Ray Brisson, Oshawa. Over 60 years, 1. Ed Langlois, Oshawa, 2. Earl Giles, Scarbo- rough. Winners of the Win- ners' Cirlce were: 1. James Bickle, 2. April Verch, 3. Al- bert Moher. Prizes for the youngest fid- dler went to Deanna Dolstra and for the oldest fiddler to Earl Giles. The organizers are very happy about the success of this event and soon will be planning for next year's Fiddle Contest next October. Boyd Vanderheul and his friend Elaine Thomas from St. Johns, Newfoundland spent Thanskgiving weekend visit- ing his parents Peter and Anne Vanderheul and other relatives in this area. Recent events Greenbank/Epsom school news On Tuesday, Oct. 7 Green- bank/Epsom students watched a play called "Green Earth". The stars were Gary Black and Justin Alder. They per- form two plays a day for 50 minutes each. The students thought it was a different but great play. The girls and boys tryouts for the school volleyball team started this week. Good luck to all! The Cross Country Runners went to an area meet at Trilli- um Valley on Thursday. Super effort was put forth by all. Congratulations!! On Friday, Oct. 4 the Green- bank students had a scare- crow contest. The grade sixes won the scariest award. The grade fives won the funkiest award. The grade fours won the French award. The grade threes won the most recyclable award. The grade twos won the most nutritious award. The grade ones won the best reader award. During Waste Reduction Week, our school participated in a garbageless lunch day. We weighted our lunch time garbage and found that we had just over 1800 grams. On Thursday, "Our Challenge Day," we had a total of 700 grams of garbage. What a fan- tastic improvement. Keep up the good work! On October 9, Mrs. Rut- ledge's class went to Sun Dance Meadows. They saw ducks, pigs, cows, horses and sheep.
