"A Family Tradition for 125 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, October 8, 1991 - 33 Cross country meet results The following are the results from the Public School Cross Country Meet held last week at the Scugog Soccer Fields. Eleven and 12-year-old boys: Alex Wardley of S.A. Cawker Public School placed second, and Mark Sauter also of Caw- ker placed third. In the girls 11 and 12-year- old girls Sam McFarlane of S.A. Cawker Public School took first place, and Yvette Hamelinck also from Cawker came in third. In the 13 and 14-year-old boys S.A. Cawker swept the top three spots. Carl Phoenix, Ben Blaine and Jason Middleton placed first, second and third respectively. LOSSA tennis Several Port Perry High School students recently com- peted at the LOSSA tennis championships. In the senior boys singles Adam Johnston placed fourth. Scott MacTavish was put out in the second round. Paul Linton won the consola- tion championship winning 36 of 47 games in LOSSA. Jeremy Luke lost in the second round. In senior girls singles play, Kendra McCrae won the conso- lation championship and in senior girls doubles play, An- drea Rudy and Lee Rollo placed fourth. PPHS soccer results The Port Perry High School junior soccer team defeated Brock 2-1, but the senior squad was not as fortunate. All members of the junior team played well in the hard fought match. Anthony Farrell, a free rover centre scored both of the goals for the Rebels. One of his goals was on a penalty . kick. } The senior boys went down in defeat 5-1 against Brock in a game played in the rain. The seniors played well but Brock was a little sharper. Mike Pugh scored the only PPHS goal. Tennis News The Port Perry Tennis Club is holding a 40 years of age and over tennis tourna- ment on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the courts. Those interested are to come to the courtsat 10 a.m. with their birth certificate in tow! Maintenance Day at the club will be Saturday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. Rain date is Sunday, Nov. 4. Come to the courts and help take down windscreens as well as help with the annual general clean up before winter. The Executive meeting will be held Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1992 at Emiel's Restau- rant in the back room, be- ginning at 8 p.m. Appreciation award At an annual awards dinner head instructor, Sensei Rob Dods third Dan (right), of the Port Perry Wado-Kai Karate Club, received an Award of Appreciation from chief instruc- tor and president of the Toronto Wado-Kal organization, Dave Manara (left). Scugog fastball club prepares for The Scugog "Angels" Fast- ball Club of Port Perry is busy preparing for the 1992 season. A 16-team ladies fastball tournament is in the works as some of the ladies who helped the fastball team in an Ux- bridge tournament recently played in the Durham Ladies Slo-Pitch league, and the An- gles aim to turn something back tothem. The ladies fastball club has also announced their sponsors for the upcoming year. They will include: Country Stlye Do- nuts, Dempsters Bread-Robert Grieve, Randy Hathaway- Dennis Anderson, David's Hairstyling, Homestead Furni- ture, Forder/Parks Insurance, Saintfield Machining, Van World, Oshawa, Otto Weber Construction, Mevene Alone, '92 season Trader Sam, Selections, Griffin Insulation "Fabric", Compton Cable T.V., Super Video (Su- perstore). The team is hoping to have their coaching staff in place within the next two weeks. The club will be planning a special opening night which will be announced at a later date, and it promises to be a special treat for everyone. Another upcoming event is the club will be presenting a trophy to Jan Towns who led the team at the Uxbridge tour- nament. She hit 3 for 4 hitting: .750 on the day. Coaches of the team would like to hear from Tracy Smith, about playing on the team, and from any other players who would be interested in trying out for the team.
