OBITUARY The death occurred on August 15, 1991 at the Port Perry Com- munity Nursing Home of Florence Mae Carter Ellicott. She was in her 80th year. Florence Ellicott was born September 8, 1911 in Markham Township. Her parents were George and Hannah Thompson. She had three brothers, Stan, Lloyd and Carmen; and two sisters Mary and Eleanor. Florence married the late Frank Carter on June 6, 1931 and they farmed near Brougham in Pickering Township. They had five children -Marion, Eldon, Glenn, Eileen and Diane. In 1957 Marion and Eileen were forced to move to California, a better climate, due to their health. Frank Carter died November 12, 1959 and just three months later February 8, 1960 their son Glenn was killed in a tragic car accident. On April 1, 1961 Florence married Allan Ellicott of Brougham. They moved to Port Perry in 1973 after their home was expropriated for the new airport. The late Florence Ellicott brought joy and happiness to many lives and she had many in- terests. She was a charter member of the Joy Rebekah Lodge in Brougham receiving the "Decoration of Chivalry" for her outstanding Lodge contribution. She was an active member in the Friendly Bible Class, a member of the Brougham United Church, taught Sunday School for many years, a member of the U.C.W. and a president in the Women's Institute. After moving to Port Perry she joined the Maybelle Rebekah Lodge and continued her work in the Port Perry U.C.W. and the Women's Institute. She was always willing to canvas for wor- thy causes including heart, cancer and lung associations in both Brougham and Port Perry. Florence Ellicott was a fine Christian lady who loved her church and was dedicated to her family and friends. Just to know her was to love her. Florence had been in ill health for several years suffering from cancer and heart problems. She suffered a severe stroke in 1986 which paralyzed her left side. She bore her illness with great courage and still brought cheer to her many friends. She entered Port Perry Nursing Home in December, 1988 and lived there until her death. The presence at the funeral home of so many friends from Brougham, Markham, Stouff- ville, Port Perry and surrounding communities were a tribute to her and a great comfort to her hus- band and family. She leaves to mourn her pass- ing her devoted husband, Allan; her children Marion and her hus- band Donald Peters of Arizona, Eldon and his wife Gloria of Oshawa, Eileen Carter of Califor- nia & Diane and her husband Keith Puckrin of Seagrave. Also thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A Rebekah Service was held at the Wagg Funeral Home and the memorial service was on Mon- day, August 19, 1991. Interment was in Whitevale Cemetery in Pickering Township. Pallbearers were her four grandsons, Michael Carter, Brad, Brett and Brandon Puckrin & her nephews Rick Ellicott and Bob Sachko.
