oy 8 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, September 24, 1991 Letters io the editor Let's appease frustrated commuters From Page 7 crowded Lakeshore GO service, and erase what could be inter- preted as a legitimate discrimi- natory grievance. Look at the transit map and see the gap- yes, that's the one to the north east; we're taxpayers too! With aggressive marketing and ad- vertising surely one or two trains a day can soon become a reality. Stations like Myrtle and Lo- cust Hill certainly have a mysti- cal conotation to their names but if GO's after numbers then let's parenthesize the originals and call them Whitby North and Markham East, far more indentifiable to future commut- ers. Come to that, if the Upper Beaches stretch to north of Danforth, and Bloor West Vil- lage almost sprawls to Missis- sauga why can't Claremont be- come Upper Pickering East! In the United Kingdom this summer innovative policies have been introduced to revita- lise rail transport, including ar- eas of privatisation, so as road/ highway congestion can be drastically reduced. There is much more that can be said, written, discussed and ultimately procrastinated over regarding this transit dilem- ma. I'm not close to all the facts and figures now, and these have been thoroughly reviewed by two staunch and enthusias- tic members of T.P.H. Associa- tion. However, I'm convinced if all the time and funds for stud- ies and surveys, past and fu- ture were put together a major contribution in start up costs for a train service could have been made. We're also informed that GO needs more trains seems odd that they had a few extra around to add to their ser- vice and revenue, when the TTC ground to a halt. Enough, rather than let this issue become a tedious and mel- odramatic affair which plods precariously on to the next round of ballot bashing, let's all go for it, put one on the tracks and let the train take the strain out of commuting now. Roger Hathaway Port Perry Rae's change of address To the Editor: How very revealing a change of address can be. The facts speak volumes. In opposition Rae and his cohorts had all the answers while enjoying the comfortable sanctuary of never having to ac- tually perform. Having since moved from Sesame St., to Main St. A. More than 200 friends and rela- tives from near and far attended and Piper Foster Hanson of Port Perry added a touch of Scottish flavor as the guests were piped into the hall. Advance notice was wrong To the Editor: Re: Mother Jacksons I very strongly resent anyone being given advance notice of an inspection. It doesn't matter whether it's inspections of a hospital, nursing home, dairy or manufacturers. It doesn't matter whether the inspection is for cruelty, sanitation, noise, safety or noxious emissions. If advance notice is received, who wouldn't take special care on that day? True results are only seen after several surprise visits by the in- spector(s). Nooneday is typical. Thank you, (Mrs.) Elizabeth Taylor P.S. I don't live within sight, sound or smell of Mother Jacksons, so have no opinion con- cerning it's operation. ADVERTISING DEADLINES REAL ESTATE 5:00 P.M.
