Enroute from the official open- ing of the Dialysis Unit of Oshawa General Hospital, the Minister met with members of Council to discuss issues and priorities for health care planning activities in Durham Region. The council expressed to the Minister their concerns regarding the need for local health care ser- vices to keep in step with the growing population of the region. The Minister emphasized a broad definition of health, in that the determinants of health are not limited to traditional health care treatment services, but include housing and employment as well as social and community ser- vices. For this reason the Minister commented that the Durham Region District Health Council should strive to foster positive working relationships between these government and community services at the local level.
