"A Family Tradition for 125 Years" CO PORT PERRY STAR - Real Estate Section - Tuesday, August 27, 1991 - 5 Shelter pet from extreme heat From Page 3 hot summer afternoon sun, pick an area that's shady. The site you choose should also have good ventilation, preferably with a north wind, so your pet doesn't become stifled by lack of air. If you don't have a suitably shady area, then part of the kennel area or run should be covered with fibreglass -- or any other suitable material -- to give your four-legged friend some protection from the elements. This is par- Before you throw out old furniture check with an upholsterer That favorite old sofa or chair has seen its final days, right? Not necessari- ly! It may be one of the most valuable pieces of fur- niture in your home. Before you throw it away, ask your decorator about reupholstering. If your chair has a stur- dy structure and solid hard- wood frame, it probably has at least a few more good years left before it should be discarded. Check its weight. Weight is usual- ly a good indication that the wood is a good quality hardwood. One advantage in reupholstering an old piece of furniture is the broad ar- ray of fabrics, colors and textures to choose from. And your professional decorator can have the old piece reconditioned by re- tying springs and replace- ing webbing, padding and filling...basically refur- bishing the whole sofa or chair. What you get back is furniture with custom- made quality. =e HOMELIFE HOMELIFE CAMPION REAL ESTATE LTD. If you plan to use the ken- nel in the winter, you should provide a doghouse that's well-insulated to provide warmth and comfort. Most outdoor areas for pets are surrounded by chain link fencing secured by sturdy steel posts. The bottom wire should be plac- ed in the ground, so your pet doesn't have the oppor- tunity to dig underneath and let himself out. Also, make sure the fence is tall enough to keep your dog from jumping or climbing out. You should also make sure your pet's outdoor area is adequately "child- proofed." Ideally, it should contain one gate with a security lock for access in and out of the structure. The area should also be no smaller than four feet wide by eight feet in length -- to ensure that your pet has enough space to run, play and roam about. Easy Cleaning For easy cleaning, you may want to consider in- stalling a concrete floor in your pet's recreation area. This type of floor -- com- plete with gutters -- can simply be hosed down every day to keep it dirt- and-odor-free. If you have a large enough space, a com- bination of cement and grass could be used. However, before you erect anything, make sure you contact your municipal office to see if a permit is required to build an outdoor area. If so, check the guidelines carefully before you build anything. Cats If you pet happens to be a cat who loves to be out- doors, there are some op- tions that you can take to ensure that he gets outside while you are out. You could-place an all-weather- cat-entry in one of your doors, so he can come and go at his own leisure. Or, you could build a cat- partment -- an insulated box that has food in it and is left outdoors. When you and your family leave in the morning, so does the cat. During the day, he can use the facilities to keep warm and eat, until you get home. These are just a few sug- gestions that could help both you and your pet. If you're not sure about the best approach, consult the staff at a local kennel or pet stores -- as well as your veterinarian -- they should be able to give you some more helpful advice to help you get started. \(Lelrqgey.Nel 3 "Securing Your Best Interest" Ample Private Funds Available for Quality 1st & 2nd Mortgages PROFESSIONAL MORTGAGE BROKERS INC.
